lines on the roadway indi cating places to cross are just a suggestion it is better to use designated points rather than have children crossing streets at varied places However either because of instruction at home or the result of seeing pictures of chil dren in Toronto or other towns extend their arm as a signal they wish to cross always at a designated pedestrian crossover some children here employ this signal expecting traffic to stop According to the Traffic Act unless an area is clearly marked as a crossover and has signs advising a motorist he is approach ing such an area cars are not required to slop Most children do not know this and step ping out from the curb with arm outstretch ed as a signal they assume all traffic will stop to permit them to cross As a result motorists are placed in a situation where an unexpected stop must be made The present areas painted as suggested crossings are on Main St at the post office Main St Ontario Eagle St at Lome Ave and Davis Drive at Niagara St At certain times of the day school crossing guards are on duty at the last three points The post of fice area however constitutes a real dan ger for children Newmarket has no designated crossovers such as arc in operation in Aurora Toronto and some other places 32000 Voters r In York North NEWMARKET The number of eligible voters in York North Hiding will be approxi mately
