TV Era We A VITAL FAITH IN A WORLD OF CRISIS G Newman A few months ago headlines across the conti nent told the sad story of a murder witnessed by two score people They had not responded to the screams of the victim They gave as their reason I just didnt want to get involved About twenty years ago the writer first heard the expression I couldnt care less It shocked him since he took it literally Today this same expression would illus trate quite aptly the attitude of many to world conditions Yet all would agree that there is a vital need to be met From this weeks headlines we learn that the manager of one of the most famous musical groups took his own life He was a multimillionaire with position and prestige Yet he said that Life was a disappointment empty without real purpose or value What important element was missing The crowd at the murder wished to remain aloof Brian Epstein longed for fulness some reaJ value to life Between these two conditions most of us move in the daily round the common tasks of life Where is the place of fulfillment couldnt care less or Deep Involvement Dr Malik former President of UN suggests that nothing is more comfortable than to be swept along with the current There usually is a popular trend of thought sweeping the coun try at any particular moment Yet Jong ago Jesus reminded His hearers Without Me ye can do nothing John The world today is hesitant to accept the Bible standards of the days so long ago Yet the shibboleths the slogans the cliches with which we are bombarded from day to day all have their passing moment before fading into oblivion They leave nothing upon which we may build the foundation of a worthwhile rich and rewarding life We hear much about a Free World Inter national understanding Human Rights among other pet projects The very leaders who spout these slogans would shut out from their delibera tions any thought of or reference to God or to Spiritual Values They wonder why they spend such long periods in utter darkness as far a real progress is concerned The child of God remembers that Jesus said i am the Way the Truth and the Life John John tells us In Him is no darkness at all I John Such statements are apt to be ignored when world leaders search for answers to their complex problems However for the individual seeker there need be no doubt as to the true answer Jesus said Search the The Psalmist says Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path The prophet of old stated Not by Might not by Power but by My Spirit the Lord of Hosts So there is a definite place for vital Christian witness in world in which we live The Christian cannot sit back and do nothing He is faced with movements trends which would deny the existence of the Spiritual values which he holds dear The Faith for which our fathers strove is at stake We are called to witness to that Faith as never before I Christians ought to be convinced that the world needs Christ We ought to witness to His ability to change lives Let us take to heart His tremendous saying Whosever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation of Him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed when He cometh in the glory of His Father Mark Luke As children of our Heavenly Father we need to possess and demonstrate to the world a vital faith relevant to the world in which we live
