J Aurora Augmt I B it By the Rev E Minister Emeritus The Christian Baptist Church Newmarket PROFESSION or PASSION One of our Professors related the story of a young man who had graduated from a well known Medical College in the United States His father who was a successful physician and surgeon took his son to Europe where they spent some time visit ing famous Medical Colleges and where the son took further post graduate work On their way home aboard an ocean liner the father during the day found companionship among the older passengers while the son associated with people nearer his own age One afternoon the father along with others heard the nevertobeforgotten cry Man over board Instinctively the father joined the ships crew in keeping the crowds back while a limp form was lifted over the railing and placed on the deck The ships doctor was called and he began the work of artificial respiration After some time the Doctor said It is of no use he is dead The surrounding crowds melted away and as the father turned around he recognized his son the victim of the tragedy At once he rushed to him and attempted to re new the effort of resuscitation Again the ships doctor said It is of no use he is dead The father said He is my son my only child Let me try So the ships doctor kindly permitted him to do his best The father tried first one method then another working with precision and rhythm as recommended by the specialists It wasnt long until there was a gasp a sigh and the son began breathing and was successfully brought back to life The point of the story is that the ships doctor worked at his profession the father worked with a passion I believe you will find the same characteristics today in the business commercial and professional world Those who succeed are not those who perform their tasks in a perfunctory manner with their eyes on the clock keeping well within bounds of the allotted time for their task The one who succeeds in the real sense of the word is the one who delights in a job well done One who is anxious to place his product in competition with others for comparison striving all the while to show forth a work that will reflect credit to his skill intelligence and integrity The same principles are to be found in the reli gious world Take two Sunday School teachers One has had a class for nearly two years She feels that it is high time some one else took it for a while so she can be free to enjoy Sunday once more The other teacher loves the children in her class She sees great possibilities in the future for these young people if they get the proper training early in life She uses every possible moment to prepare the lesson and herself before meeting with the class each Sunday Then prays earnestly and fervently that the seed sown will bear the desired fruit in Gods own time To her the class is not a burden from which to seek relief but a Godgiven joy to have a part in their training Or here is a Sunday School superintendent who was persuaded to take over because the former superintendent moved away or resigned and no one else would do it After awhile he becomes dis couraged because all the work has been piled on him and he has been tied down every Sunday while others better qualified than he so he thinks were enjoying a lovely drive through the countryside Then there is the other superintendent who numbly accepts the honor and by seeking Divine guidance seeks to organize his staff so the work can be carried on in the most efficient manner By taking a deep interest in the school he rejoices to sec others taking a like interest The same comparison could be made among the various officers of the church the mens clubs the womens organizations and the work among the young people Auld Ki Mr and Mrs H Marshall Muriel St New market celebrated their wedding anniversary recently They were entertained by their family at a dinner and received many gifts and good wishes Guide Company Erects
