Camera Could Cut Repair Costs TV Technique Checks Condition Of NEWMARKET The modern televis ion program and the condition of the interior of the local storm sewer appear quite unre lated as far as the Newmarket ratepayer is concerned but the media of the television camera could chop a few mills from the tax levy of the future especially during a sum mer similar to this one when both storm and sanitary sewer lines have been loaded be yond capacity The firm of Underwater TelEye Can ada Ltd recently demonstrated a remark able use for the small closedcircuit televi sion camera at one or two locations in New market and vicinity Basically the camera travels through the pipe to be examined and its eagle eye transmits a closeup picture of the interior to the operator who is seated In a specially equipped truck He in turn is in twoway communication with the operator of the travelling cable which actuates the camera He is able to stop the camera at any point where a closer examination is required The cable attached to the television cam era is graduated in feet and this again al lows the technician to pinpoint any trouble or deficiency in the construction To add clarity to the final report the operator watching the screen in the darken ed truck is also equipped with a mm cam era If trouble is located at any specific number of feet along the line he will stop the movement below take a picture of the trouble spot showing on the TV screen and incorporate all the information in his re port The camera itself is very compact and in no way resembles the laymans idea of a television camera It looks like a telescope with about a fourinch lens and travels specially designed skids The advantages of the modern inspection are manifold It is able to pinpoint the trouble whether it is a cave in root infil tration or abnormal build up of deposit on the floor of the pipeline Before the use of the television camera in this particular Job engineers could only take an educated guess at the location of the trouble and this would necessitate time consuming digging operations diagnosis and repair Now the engineer is able to receive a comprehensive report together with pictures or even sK in with the TelEye technician and get a first band view of the trouble and its exact location The company operating the system also go one step further following the inspection and offer municipalities sewer cleaning and repair both operated from the street level The cleaning unit requires only a few minutes of setup time and is able to clean and scour or more feet per hour repair system basically repairs sec tion by an internal sealing method which incorporates a special chemical compound 36 Teams Participate Argus Wins Major NEWMARKET The greatest Don Clark Beamsville
