a PS Newman One of my schoolboy heroes was Admiral Lord I remember the story of how he turned blind eye toward those difficult or unpleasant which he wished to ignore Schooldays are past but the idea of turning a blind eye ins with us How often we hear of it when favorite team is being penalized whilst the V team goes free Yet this practice is not alone used in the realm sport In the difficult and complex civilization which we live we are frequently faced with which we would rather not consider We wish I they would go away and leave us So of them are the result of us being swallowed in the search for material gains whilst we blind and deaf to those Spiritual values enriched the lives of our forefathers Scenes of my youth come back to me as I those moments around the breakfast table with bowed head and humbled heart the of the house committed us to the Lord with that the day held for us No matter how loudly duties of the day were calling time was always ten for the Family Altar and the hired man one of the family Then when difficulties or problems presented themselves there were depths of Heavenly Grace and I fell remember the old slogan oft Christ in the vessel I can smile at the om it was at these times of family prayer that I it heard thrilling stories which I had never were in the Holy Bible The rich fool tog bigger barns but neglecting all sense of values It was in such a home that I first led that the Christian way of life was a very Tactical application of the Truth which the Lord taught to the needs of everyday living Two generations have passed since those wonder- days but the truths which were learned then iye survived the gruelling tests of the years Today many pastors could tell of trans lives changed by the personal acceptance the Truth as found in the Lord Pieces human wreckage which come in their hour of to a source which they have spurned here- fore Yet when the Lord Jesus Christ is present- to them through the truths He left us in His ford Chords which were broken vibrate once lore I am reminded of the title at the head this column and also that the Bible refers Jesus as The Word made flesh The old Gospel says When Jesus comes the tempters power is irokenV It seems today that we want power brakes steering power everywhere in the things we yet our very lives are powerless we lave neglected those precepts and truths which the lives of those who went before us The founder of the Salvation Army left us many among them a verse which often comes mind Now tossed with temptation then haunted by fears My has been joyless and useless for years I fee something better most surely must be come mighty ocean and roll over me The ocean to which Booth referred is lamed in the first verse of the same song Salvation Deep Ocean of Love We all need to invite Christ to take command irough the storms as well as the pleasant paths of Ate Jesus never fails I SHARON The annual Shar onHope United Church and Explorer Mother and
