recently when he announced that a test program for in surance on forage crops is being undertaken by the Crop Insurance Commission Insur ance is already available on winter wheat and spring grains This is the first forage crop insurance plan available in North America The extension or ibe insur ance program is being tested in two areas of the Province In Western Ontario the Coun ties of Bruce Grey and Huron able and in Eastern Ontario the Counties of Prince Ed- ward Renfrew and Lennox and The inclusion of forage crops under the insurance plan is the third program to be developed by the insurance Commission since it was es tablished last September The plan has design ed to insure hay hay silage corn silage seeded pasture on the basis of normal expect ed yield Relating the insur able yield to the number of animal units maintained on these forage crops the plan insures the total production summer feeding and offers protection for per cent of crop Applicants for insur ance are given the option of selecting coverage based on or per ton of hay equivalent If the plan proves to be acceptable in the test areas selected for his season it will be made available on a Provincewide basis
