the councillor Murder Dear Editor There has been a shooting in Newmarket Who Her name was and she was a cat I can hear you say For Heavens Sake a cat and perhaps you are right But to my neighbors and their two children it is harder to explain Of course cats are run over every day and other pets die in other ways hut this was murder Pie was shot Her breast and side torn away and her front legs broken by shot Perhaps she was the sport of some irresponsible young ster who could not find worthier game or perhaps an adult who certainly knew better Not only does she leave a sorrowing human family but Pie had two newborn kittens who may not survive her death This was done within sound of her home and her masters heard what was possibly the firing that killed her On Green Lane there arent many houses but we all have pets and now we must fear to let our cats out of the house Must we also fear for our children who could be hurt by- stray bullets which travel far beyond a missed target We sixteam league for the first time and members of the group coached the teams Following the Iwo final games President Bill presented the J Spillette Memorial Trophy to the Blues and win scoring two goals and rifted the third marker In the Pee wee contest Kevin and Paul brew shared the scoring honors for Blues exploded for a hattrick and Drew scored a goal and three assists Rod Smith and Donald John Degrath chairman of the Spoke Award Committee named Joe Osborne of the unit as winner He was pre sented with a trophy by AH Foster District president This award goes to the rookie member judged to have made an ing contribution to his club Verif Newton Newmarket chairman of the Effective Speaking Contest announced Bob Limoges of Penetang was the winner A new trophy donated by Mr Gosbee was Canadian Legion and citi zens of Newmarket whkh kindly bestowed all the boys It takes no imagination to realize the tremendous amount of hard required to such a Tournament but if the officials could
