Hilda Benson was presented Wednes day evening by the Newmar ket Drama Club at the annual meeting of the Chil drens Aid Society of York County Susan Van directed the play In cast were Harry Kimpton Sophie Peter Van Gould Marion Foot Diana Sanderson and Andy Foot A question and answer per iod followed dealing with problems brought into focus by play Unemployment poverty slum housing dis honest practices in business and government juvenile de linquency vandalism alco holism drug addiction brok en homes premarital and extramarital sex relations sexual deviation abortion mental illness and suicide were problems presented To whom does one turn for help seemed to be biggest ques tion Aurora Drama Workshop will present Over ruled and Hats Friday and Saturday March 31 and April I at St Andrews Col lege Auditorium Curtain time pm Several Newmarket Drama Club members are in volved In these plays SKCOND Rattle of a Simple Man by Charles Dyer and directed by Tony Milter is into its sec ond weeks run with very good attendance Two of the leads Wendy Thatcher and Malcolm Cordon arc appear ing by permission of Actors The lead role is played by Dennis of Curtain Club These three actors make up the whole east Wendy Cyrenne Is well developed role the only criticism as such was thai she was a little young looking for this part However she did sus tain audience interest through out the play and this is a real achievement Dennis Percy was delightful as the young man of out for a big night on the town Malcolm Cor don was an excellent foil for and gave Ihe au dience a change of pace needed such a small east Wendy Thatcher appeared in the TV Wojcck series and her last appearance at the Curtain Club was in Diary of a Scoundrel appeared with Little Theatre Hamilton Players Guild and in The Drunkard at the Dell Dennis a past presi dent of the Curtain Club and time member played CrockerHarris in the Browning Version and Larry in Wholl Save the Tony Miller who directed play has also directed Picnic High Ground and others for the Newmarket Drama Club plus a dozen or more for Aurora Drama Workshop He has acted re cently at the Toronto Central Library in The Flies Whitehead artistic director of the Shaw Festival 1967 is the adjudicator for the Manitoba Drama Festival now in presentation Mr Whitehead will appear with such theatre notables In the Shaw Festivals first produc tion as Douglas Rain Mar tha Henry Heath and Betty Arms and Man will open the season on June The Circle will be sec ond feature production and Major Barbara starring Maycska and Paxton Whitehead will be the closing show The very successful semin ar on Shaw will be repeated and this year will lake place from July Kay Kimpton secretary of the Newmarket Drama Club Is now recuperating at home after her sojourn in York County Hospital Her many friends wish her a speedy re covery Andy Foot has been host a group of interested Drama Club members at his home Thursday evenings or the reading of plays
