outstripping other makes Well gladly show you their reports on request CORONA Prices Are Right Yes- prices are low and terms are easy No down payment terms as low as weekly Sputnik three fell close at home last week as Pierre Gor- mand and Herbie Cain came to a contremps as they say in Que bec with the Newmarket Arena Commission over a strange thing called net gate to the club and the arena This matter has been simmer ing somewhat like Vesuvious for some weks but timely enough as a new council comes in erupted last week There will be no home game this week for the Smokies ac cording to what we know by Monday After a lengthy ses sion of brains and brawn on Sat urday a deadlock still persisted it is reported The Smokies practiced at Bradford on Sunday and defin itely will play Brooklin at Bradford on Thursday next This is one of the big attractions of the year We have no wish to comment not because we fear to rush in where calmer may get away from it all but simply because as a good neighbor we dont think we should comment or interfere un til all the facts and rumors arc sifted and sorted You can mark it down that the blue and white will be back home shortly So far as the OHA are concern ed no club can change arenas without the consent of the clubs in the group and all the teams gave this the OK at the re quest of the Newmarket man agement Likewise the OHA will honor to the full the con tracts entered into between teams and arenas There is no written contract in Newmarket The hard part of solving any thing of this nature comes from the unkind remarks made but all parties arc big enough to meet the situation head on and smile Personalities come and go but the game of hockey and good sportsmanship will con tinue long after all have passed on from these climes Meanwhile Dour Alcorn smiles brightly as the shorthanded Bears took a verdict from the I Smokies on Thursday last by virtue of some superb hockey Moose tallied twice and generally turned in a terrific display as did goalie Child The Rings either werent up to par or have been a bit over rated perhaps they sensed he background picture but the Au rora lads were full value for their win They came back Fri day to hold Alllston to a tie in Aurora and the fan attend ance was disgraceful for a con test this good Frankly speaking the arena commission has a job as well asljf the team to sell to the public and ft it certainly has much belter fa- Its not enough that the arena may make enough to carry the proportionate share of its ov erhead the team and its manage ment has to be happy as well Alcorn could move elsewhere and do better It simply bolls down to the fact that all have to pull Meanwhile the Bruins will play Whitby If at home on Fri day and on Saturday at Port Perry Guess you noticed that flow dropped the Brooks on Wednesday last as an indi cation that they are not invinc ible but as an example of what can happen the Johnston boys bounced back on Saturday to pin Jets to the wall We think perhaps that are playing a bit over their heads right now and by the lime the playoffs come to hand anything may take place Incidentally we apologize for Spelling name of Nell non wrongly We called him last week The lad has done fine so far with Alcorn Vlncc Ferguson of who plays for holds the scor ing lead in the loop right now followed closely by Marcel TCS the Newmarket flash second and Harold Russell in Schom- berg United church on Sunday evening Dec proved inspir ing for the consecutive year This custom was originated and designed by Mrs Russell who has made improvements over the yeais Twentytwo choristers partic ipated before a audience As the auditorium lights were turned off only the glow of two lighted Christmas trees on either side of the altar provided enough light for a quartette standing in the darkened chctr loft to sing Silent Night To this beautiful singing eight male members of the choir entered bearing lighted candle They proceeded to the various parts of the church wherever there were candles to light The whole choir formed a Processional b earing lighted candles as they sang O Come All Faithful They crossed over before the gold cross on the altar and took their places in the choir loft extinguishing their lights The whole church was a glow of soft lights and the singing con tinued with the Christmas Story anthem and First Noel with Miss Hetty Edwards and Mrs Margaret Lang taking the des cant The male section continued with the hymn while Shepherds Watched Their Flocks with Bob Lang and Bill in solo part Miss Betty Edwards sang Room in the Inn and Mrs Lang sang The Bleak Cold Winter The only break in the chorale was the reciting of a Christina Poem by the minister Rev W The choir then went out on I the village streets singing their carols and visiting homes of eld i people and shutins Tired but happy the singers turned to the church where a hearty supper was served by wives and husbands of those in the choir The whole ceremony of bring- ing joy to people through mas music has become an lotion in Sc horn berg due to the efforts of Mrs Russell and a choir that gixes full support and In teres I to the ceremony June nine and
