Reginald tion of a welding and machine on the property of Kenneth Eagle St was pre sented to Newmarket council on Monday night The petition con tained names with the spokes man being Mr A Millar Eagle St At an earlier meeting of coun cil Mr Rusnell in a letter had re quested permission to build such a shop on the rear of his proper- 1 this Since no formal application for a building permit had been made to Building Inspector Lid- die council referred the matter to the inspector The petition which had been prepared by property owners in the neighborhood of the proposed machine shop site stated that they strongly opposed such a building as it would create a nuisance and fire hazard The signers of our petition feel that the erection of a welding and machine shop on that loca tion would seriously depreciate their properties Mr Millar told council If it is permitted I for one would naturally approach council for a revaluation of my property to reduce the assess ment Such buildings have one of the highest fire insurance rates the same as the rate for a lumber yard he explained Mr Millar said that while the fire insurance rate on a house is cents per 100 for three years the insurance rate on a welding and machine shop is 142 per per year He told council that when Av enue extended it would mean a loss of revenue to the town if the shop were permitted on its proposed location The rear of these deep lots on Eagle St would form the new properties on such an extension I dont think it would add anything to the district to have a welding plant out there added Mr Millar We are expecting a report on this matter from the building in spector said the mayor These people should be told that councils authority in such who owns no proper per- has no right to refuse it There is a clause in the build ing bylaw which will permit council to refuse a permit if and when an application has been made for one said Councillor Knapton I dont remember the exact phrasing but it says that buildings which might be dan gerous must be referred to coun cil Nothing can be done about yet The man the property has made application for a building mil As I understand it the owner of this property has an opportun ity to sell it if he can put up this welding and machine shop said Councillor Paynter He must have the building permit for the shop before the sale can be com pleted He is getting out himself he is not too worried about his neighbors He will not get permission from me for that per mit The delegation was told by the mayor that their petition will be considered when the building in spectors report is presented Un til a proper application is made for the permit nothing can be On Friday absenteeism stood at per cent with children absent from the five public schools The figure had jumped to on Monday again to on Tuesday and to 333 yesterday This represented per cent of the total enrolment Schools Remain Open Due to characteristics of this particular disease closing of schools will not stop the spread of disease and contagion will con tinue unabated at home on the street and in many other con tinuing community activities Since the spread of the disease in the present outbreak cannot be stopped or materially prevented by closing schools the medical officer of health can not justify an order to close a school in this situation on the grounds of di sease prevention To minimize severity a to prevent secondary infection the patient should go to bed at the beginning of an attack and should not return to school or to work until fully recovered Dr King says If fever is high or other symp toms are severe the family doctor should be consulted immediately Pickering Closed Pickering College was closed this week because students from the Be ing a that a building permit has been issued to A Taylor for the erection of a garage on his Lowell Ave prop erty The request had been re ferred to council last month when Mr Taylor suggested a position for the garage less than the required three feet from his property line Mr told council in his letter that he had inspected the property A new location was recommended which complied with the building bylaw and since this was satisfactory to owner the permit was issued Amend 6l6 For One Lot I On Eagle St But Final Authority Awaits Board First and second reading of a Councillors idler Choppin and purposes When the townowned sweeping Ontario struck Sutton I property on Eagle St east of the district high school with full Bell Telephone building was force this week Principal G A said that 40 per cent of the enrolment was suggested as the site for the store this bylaw was brought to public notice It was pointed out by some members of council that the es tablishment of a store on that side
