harm was reduc ed to the one of common assault by Magistrate S who said in sentencing Warren that he was taking into consider ation the fact that he had been retained hi custody since his ar rest on Tuesday Warren had previous assault conviction Miss Porte testified that about am on Sunday August came to a cabin at Park- side Lodge which had been rent ed by her cousin John Big Canoe and in which into the cabin and started beating me When asked by Crown Attorney Ar Armstrong what Warren had done to her she replied He hit me in the face Miss Porte said there was noth ing to drink in the cabin but that she had been drinking at Lake Hotel earlier in the even ing She said Warren smelled of liquor Shortly after Warren arrived at the cabin Cameron left Miss Porte Warren was cursing and swearing at she contin ued Did you curse and swear at him asked the defense coun sel A little Did you say things about his mother and family Well he said things about me she replied The defense counsel argued
