the emergency work Because of the desperate situa tion in the Gaza area the extra supply of childrens clothing was needed immediately The gar ments were for boys and girls to years of age Mrs Fred president of the local branch said that the Red Cross has been providing clothing for these youngsters since their infancy Thousands of layettes were sent from Can ada but this winter the situation was particularly acute and these afterwar babies grown now to their early teens needed com plete outfits of warm service able clothing- Mrs said When the Newmarket branch was asked to share in the extra work Mrs said that the group accepted the responsi bility for completing garm ents Fourteen local womens groups were contacted and ask ed to assist with the work But due to the time limit set on the sewing only a few groups were able to assist with this project Without exception all the groups were interested They their help in future emergencies when extra sewers are needed Mrs said The hulk of the emergency sewing was done at Red workrooms Trinity United church hall At the same time the regular quota of sewing knitting and was not neglected The routine work is accepted annually and helps provide clothing for the stock pile at Geneva Switzerland it is because women in small towns and large cities throughout the world wherever there is a Red Cross branch continue tills yearly program
