year The total budget Is compared with 195257 last year The township rate is down half a mill but the overall pic ture is up because of higher school and county rates The school rate has increased from to and the count v rate is up to 36000 The other major in crease Is 7000 in the debenture rate The actual increase will vary In the school sections some having dropped to cents per assessed while others have increased as much as Hie township road rate the township general rate and the relief and hospital rate which the council controls have drop ped a half mill The council has no control over the school high school and county rates where the increases have taken place debentures levied this year on No and Queens- Ville fire hall account for de benture increase and the rest of the Increase is in the school sec tions The Newmarket Era and Express Thursday May Page Trees Prince Charles School The Newmarket Horticultural Society contributed six trees which were planted the Prince Charles school ground on May The ceremony in which members of the society the Home and School association and school staff took part was to have been on Arbor Day but that was postponed because of weather The decision to plant the trees was made by Mrs Anton Mrs Herbert Miller and Mrs Ronald the Juven ile Committee of the Horticul tural Society The trees were obtained by Rodger Caldwell chairman of the Civic Improve ment committee who had the trees dug out of the bush and brought to the school ground The planting was supervised by William principal of Prince Charles school Mr Blackshaw and pupils of grade eight dug the holes and mixed a of top soil peat moss and fertilizer During the ceremony two poems on trees were read by Margaret Hayes of Mr and Mrs Orley Hayes and by Sandy Constable son of Mrs Margaret Constable Mrs told child ren about the root system of the beech tree and how long it would be before they could expect to eat their lunches under the tree Harold Jackson supervising principal of Newmarket schools spoke briefly on the importance of trees for conservation and the part they played in Canadas economy CHANGE DATE The Newmarket and District association for Retarded
