I il One afternoon last week I was invited to accompany the Will ing Workers of Pine Orchard to York Manor to present a short program and distribute little tokens of cheer to who make York Manor their home It was a cheerful group hi pleas ant surroundings which to our efforts The president of the after a few introductory words read psalm and then called on Mrs Albert Ridley and me for piano duet Mrs George Murray two solos Accompanied by Mrs G Wood Miss Venia Wife recited one of Pauline John- dons wonderful Indian legends Nancy Helen and Alberta Rid ley sang It is a joy to hear children doing part songs and these children arc learning early Their mother acted as accompanist Mrs gave a fine reading and gave a delightful talk Mr has special faculty for adapting his talk to give the greatest pleasure to his listeners He told not one but quite few laics which brought well deserved laughter from many quarters and effectually welded the audience together as only a good laugh can But his talk was not all humor It also brought us face to face with the deeper things of life Mrs James Hope conducted sing song of the old favorites which one could sing without ones being glued to a sheet of music In conclusion Mrs Cody gave us a couple of con tests We were then invited by Mrs Wilde our very gracious hostess to adjourn to dining room where wo were served a delicious refection and after a pleasant social halfhour we went home through the rain fooling the afternoon to been both pleasant and profit able York Manor Is real home now cheerful and comfort able Then I should like to say a few words about the morning service of Trinity Untied church Newmarket When I went Into the beautiful sanctuary on Sun day morning what a panorama of the past flitted across mind I Can that church after church has risen here on the stepping stones of their dead moil and chaos of modern liv ing have lost something of the burning zeal and pioneer spirit They brought this church into being on the slenderest financial basis but with a basis of faith which rose above material lock ings However that may bo Dr threw out a challenge to our church that made us feel that to carry the message of our church love and the spirit of Christ out into our dailv lives among our friends anil neighbors is one thing in life worth doing Dr Finlay spoke of fearful responsibility rests on parents and on nil who come in contact with young children that they may see in us something of the life of Christ He spoke of those who had felt they knew God when they were surrounded by wealth health and peace but when like Job they had everything they valued taken from them they felt that as the Bible tells us even if we make our beds in hell God is there God never looks at a crowd He sees individual and as such He looks for us to help build His church Trinity church should stand there in Newmarket as a witness to the faith and from it should go out a tide of living witnesses A sermon this gives one a strange feeling of strength a feeling of being able to do some thing for One who has done so much for us The senior choir sang two an thems and the junior choirs sang beautifully during the offertory But especially I wish to pay bute to Ken Stephens who sang How Lovely Are Thy Dwell ings with a purity of tone and a beauty of expression One heard every word and to me unless hear the words the singer might be Caruso or Martinelll and It would give mo no pleasure If one Is singing in a tongue then we know what to expect but if the language be English then one likes it to be understandable The accompaniment by or- Mr was beau tiful and as an accompaniment should supported but never overpowered the finger All In all it was a service where one could be thankful for the good EXECUTIVE
