planning board Mr op posed joint boards claiming that they accomplished nothing He added East has established a planning board al ready no doubt to plan for fu ture The only way to plan is as one unit Mr disagreed with Mr idea saying that the provincial planning authorities when they visited Newmarket last year had recommended a joint planning board They ad vised that when Newmarket es tablished a planning board it should think of working with the surrounding municipalities particularly those immediately adjacent to the town It would be premature to have a planning board now It would only en courage immediate development Mr added Council supported on the reso lution with the exception of the reeve and Mr No one was named to the board i Also The Riotous Hit ABBOTT and Lou Meet the Mummy with PEGGY KING PLEASE NOTK Saturday shows now begin at pm ij i TUESDAY WEDNESDAY NO MAIL PICKUP IN EDWIN LYONS There is no box for mail pick up in the Edwin Lyons subdi vision Post Master Fred Curran told a reporter of the Era and Express this week The postal authorities do not consider that area as part of Newmarket be cause there is no direct connec tion to the town At present entrance to the subdivision is by way of St in Millard extension or from Davis Drive West along Forest Glen Mr said that postal regulations call for the road in a new subdivision to be no more than yards from the last property in the established section of a town He explained that until a through street is provided from the town to the subdivision the houses or points of call there cannot be included in the towns total requirements for house-to- house postal delivery There must bo a minimum of 2500 points of call before mail carrier service can be established GIVE REASONS Continued from page hides crossing that driveway would automatically bring in more of the calcium chloride of salt whichever was used since more of it is put on the roadways and it would automatically drop off the cars as it went over that driveway You also mentioned in your editorial that the older walks did not seem to be affected by the salt and calcium action This is not entirely true but I would say that concrete is not as readily affected by salt and calcium after it has aged for a period of time The reason for this has not been determined by the cement com panies but nevertheless it is so As I mentioned above the consulting firm of engineers could have specified that either a Resin or be used in the concrete mix These three chemicals are used in what is called air entraining of concrete and it has a definite lessening of effect as far as salt and calcium chloride action is concerned However in the city of Toronto especially where these additives are used in the concrete they still have a cer tain amount of scaling in places Even adding these chemicals is not proof against scaling We have been working very closely with the cement compan ies trying to overcome this prob lem as have other contractors and to date we have not found an answer that will be 100 per fect However it is the hope of the construction industry that within the next few years we will come up with an answer to tills problem trust that the foregoing will answer some of the queries rais ed in your Yours very truly J Vaterhouse Editors Note We appreciate the letter from Mr and are sure that taxpayers arc interested to hear his views on the subject Noting his reference to intimation about fault of the contractors we must point out that made no reference to contractors In our editorial Our suggestion was that the ce ment companies should provide the answers to the problem Mr nevertheless has provided logical answers Strikes and Spares Old Get- Pep Vim Feel of Vigor Years Younger MEN Dont be in Try Tonic Tabic
