council at its last meeting that he was receiv ing many requests from old age pensioners for the payment of additional grant recently an nounced by higher governmental authorities He said that he was not certain who eligible to receive the additional monthly payment As he under stood it the extra money was to cover shelter payments and to purchase drugs Mayor Herbert said that municipalities pay nothing on old age pensions so that he could not see why percent this additional grant if it were an extension of the old age pension should come from the municipal level If it is a relief measure presentation of a recommendation by Coun cillors Gladstone idler and Robert Wonch Reeve Edward and Councillor Alex it Almost everyday the Plan ning and Industrial committee is confronted by someone with problems connected with the towns development Mr said This all takes time more time than most of us are able fo give 4 If development is to go forward in a cohesive pattern a planning board which would act in an advisory capacity to coun cil is needed It would cost the town nothing because It is for such senior citizens as are appointed to planning boards to work without Council would benefit from their years of experience he added I cant support Mr suggestion replied the reeve As Newmarket stands with its limited facilities I cant approve major expansion Until we know what the province vill give us for sewers and water we cant go too much further We have an increase of over last years costs for op erating the town Until we provincial or federal aid we cant develop further Reeve Wright- man added is not going to cost the town to set up an ad visory planning board added Councillor John agree with the reeve that imme diate expansion is doubtful and unlikely but if we had a plan the post office made it awkward to have the regulation en for red now increasing the dif ficulties lie said that the con struction of the addition to the post office had added to the traffic problem at that corner and that the restricting of the parking facilities by the United church to those on church busi ness had made it almost impos sible to find a spot to park while mailing a letter The
