close Wednesday when they played host to all the players who performed under their ban ner during the past season Hon ored guests were the King City Lions midget hockey club who this year captured the Newmarket Curlers Win Prizes Bradford curling club mem bers closed the season officially Wednesday of last week with a gala banquet and presentation of prizes at the Aurora The banquet wound up one of the clubs most successful seasons Approximately 275 curlers their friends and outoftown guests attended Ralph Newmarket chairman of the clubs social committee was master of cere monies The Walker Trophy emblema tic of club championship honors was presented to Alan the past Christie handed out some ex- of the winning Newmarket advice on sportsmanship and outlined the provincial scope of the Fifteen players Lions and five guests in all persons at tended the banquet Among the guests were Carson Bice coach Gordon manager John Richards and Jim Pat ton The latter two looked after the ferceing drive received the Lions trophy as the teams lop scorer Clark Archi bald presented the Archie Sports trophy to the Lions club for presentation to the clubs top voted sportsman in turn presented the trophy to Gordon Sampson who was nam ed the teams top sportsmanship player quartet Members of the winning Newmarket rink along with were Hall Bob Smith and Jack Luesby member of the championship rink received a silver tray Bill of Barrio representing the Walker Company made the presentation Keith Nobles Bradford rink received the Bra ding Trophy second highest award in the mens competition The Manse Harrison Memorial Trophy Up for competition for the first time this season was captured by Bill Aurora rink- The lady curlers of the club were not forgotten and they in turn stepped forward to claim trophies and individual awards Ruth Kneeshaws Brad font quar tet accept oil the Frank Dawson Trophy emblematic of club su premacy Mrs Rita Dawson made the presentation Muriel Clark Newmarket and Edith Aurora wore members of the winning combination Martha Evans of Bradford re ceived the Sim one second highest award on the clubs list Mrs Helen Cameron of Newmarket was it member of the Evans the drive to raise funds for a new curling rink near the now arena was cheer fully received by the assembled curlers Since the club was organize several years ago it has conducted plays on the top
