arena last Thursday So far as I know from most reliable sources I wasnt barred from the arena and definitely didnt stay away figuring discretion was the better part of valor I missed the Smoke RingsParry duel be cause of a special town council meeting First my thanks for your many phone calls and words of encouragement with regard to the equipment sale You havent heard the last of this matter This paragraphs intends to con tinue his research and to press for an arena commission state ment As the Commission is spending taxpayers money I feel it only right the Commission should should give the complete facts with regard to this sale or should I giveaway However in the interests of public safety we would suggest that you dont hold breath until this statement is forthcom ing It might ho a bit embarr assing to appear in public all the time with a blue face There aire two points I would like to clear up in the matter First was the equipment sold to an individual or direct to hockey club An an swer to that question might prove interesting Secondly wonder whether the sale was sanctioned at a regular Commission meeting Its my supposition that the sale was approved at a quick called Sunday morning meeting If this is correct in this latter assumption then how many Commissioners were pres ent at the meeting 1 know of one who wasnt present when the sale was approved I won der how many others were One Commissioner has re marked that the equipment wasnt worth anymore than Like I said last week the goal equipment sent to Gerald ton was worth that alone However well never know the answer to is true worth because the first price offered was apparently grabbed off If anyone cares to continue the argument as to the value of the equipment well 1h happy to publish the list of equipment on hand at the end of last season Then you can be Ihe judge I do fee someone grab bed off a big bargain on hockey equipment that was purchased with taxpayer money I do know of one hockey club in this immediate area that clos ed up shop a year or two ago This club had less equipment and certainly in no boiler shape cleared it out for 600 Regardless of Ihe worth of the equipment it was only sound business practice to advertise the fact that It was for sale How else was it possible to establish a fair price Certainly it wasnt good business to sell it to first person who came along Well let the matter stand there at present and as weve of ten mentioned before thl col umn or the columns of the Era and Express are always open to any organisation or persons to express their views favorable or contrary to this columnist Tho equipment we have been discussing was used by the sen ior team last season This was a team sponsored by the Arena Commission and cost taxpayers approximately What I didnt know until last week was that you can add an other 100 to this total It seems the team didnt have enough money to pay for the windbreakers they purchased players raised all but 1Q0 to cover purchase The deficit was donated by the Recreation Commission How do you like that one par ticularly since all but one or two were imports and t dont recall them winning anything to rate donation March Jamboree Third in the Smoke series is up for attention tho arena tonight You can look for ward to a much improved per formance from tho Sounders judging from the reports of their home effort Saturday Theres not likely to be any love lost between the two teams and officials The Sounders have protested two of the Newmarket players By press lime well know the outcome of the protest Peter Gorman and the players in question Jerry MeBride and Jack Graves were scheduled to appear at an executive subcommittee meeting called for last night to deal with the mat ter dont have any more luck than Aurora Bears and with their protests then Messrs Gorman and Cain havent much to worry about The Aurora teams have learned the hard way to the tune of 50 that you just cant figure how the OHA will deal with a protest Both Aurora clubs figured they had enough evidence to prove their points against Richmond Hill and However the hockey brass judged differently and tossed out both protests be cause of insufficient evidence Ah Well you learn by experi ence however I very much doubt that the Aurora officials gained worth of knowledge from their protests Theres big hockey
