employ 500 to people and a contribution of more than to thosewage disposal plant The official agree ment would involve two subdi vides the firm and the town In a report presented to coun cil by Planning chairman Glad- tone the details of the agreement were listed and an ex tensive revision of the water situation tor the area outlined The water report was based on figures supplied by the town en gineer at last weeks closed meet ing of council when the agree ment was discussed for several hours The agreement involves the town Ltd manufac turers of TV antennae Point Subdivides former Lewis farm on Yonge St and Willow Sub- dividers Edwin Lyon subdivi sion According to the agreement Point Subdivides would release feet of Yonge St frontage in the Lewis property free of charge for the erection of a fac tory by Ltd with a minimum floor area of square feet to employ at least SO persons for at least 10 years In return the town would lease Willow Subdivides from the responsibility of extending Millard Ave a condition placed in the original agreement be tween the town Mr when his first subdivision was approved The town would agree to pro vide water to houses in the subdivision over a period of time at the regular rate of outoftown users one and onehalf the rate paid by town water users This pro vision of a is subject to there being an adequate supply of water for the town at all times The subdivided in turn would pay at the time of issuing of building by East bury tmvnship for each single dwelling and 300 for each duplex toward the Newmarket sewage disposal plant According to Mr re port which will be given in de tail next week Newmarket has the water supply at its back door and he urged that the town take Immediate action to add the large extra flow of tho Creek to the towns supply unless a new large sup ply is located by drilling Mr Ridlcr said that this tlon would eliminate any reason for postponing approval of de velopment in the area because of water shortage Granting some water for outside the town added Mr will require a water velopment that will unlock the door to the general development of the town In discussing the proposed reemen t between the town and Harold and the towns water situation Deputy- reeve Violet ad vised council to proceed with caution We cant bankrupt the town to provide water for new subdivisions she commented The people complain now about their taxes We must think of the present taxpayers Mrs said I want industry in town but I dont think we should rush into any expensive program without consideration I wouldnt want the town to get into hot water added Coun cillor Alex for provid ing cold water to the subdivision We of council have no right to gamble with the health and welfare of the com munity Mr asked the solici tor if the agreement could be phrased so that the town would not be compelled to provide wa ter until there is an adequate supply available The solicitor assured council that the town would be protected Its only fair to give Mr water for building pur poses to mix cement answered Councillor Gladstone If there is a private agree ment to provide building water or water for a few houses when occupied before fall said Mr Im opposed to it Ac cording to the wording of this agreement we are not going to give him a gallon of water un til we have it If theres any inference that the water committee is bucking this project said Councillor Ale Hands let it be washed away with all this water we are going to have The question remains do we want water at any Should we give water to outoftown subdivisions and not to those in town What if a township or new subdivision farther up the creek decided to put in a filtra tion plant What would happen to our water supply he asked Mr Stiver The solicitor assured him that no one could do that Since the stream ended within the towns limits the town had riparian rights on the water TO ARCTIC Thomas has returned Baffin Island after having spent the past two weeks with his fam ily Consider 500 Lot Levy On Auroras Subdi To Pay Di Authorization to expand the Aurora sewage disposal plant which will cost over was given by the town council on Monday evening At the same meeting council considered rais ing the town levy for each lot in now subdivisions from to but a resolution to that ef fect was not passed and discus slon Is being held over until an other meeting Engineer Don return ed to council with another con tract price from a firm which was lower than any bid when tenders were opened two weeks ago At the meeting two weeks ago the engineer said he wanted to check prices When I was hre two weeks ago didnt believe prices It was a little unusual not un ethical but I went after another price and it was a little better said the engineer This price quoted by Construction of was the one coun cil accepted The price Is 247- compared with 268150 lowest submitted from the Toronto area when tenders called In addition equipment will cost as estimated by to make the total estimated cost Council passed a motion that the price be accepted and that the price of 5050251 for equipment be accepted and that the total cost not exceed 330000 estimate on the cost of disposal plant extension was made two years ago at 000 including equipment council made an sharing- the Cost any based on that estimate Said Mr I haw checked on these matters and was told that building costs have increased seven percent In two years but I have found out that costs have increased about percent But our costs still will be over that increase by another Mayor Henderson asked if the plant could be completed by No- vember The engineer said that the new addition could be completed by the end of the year but that the reconditioning of the old plant would not be complet ed by then Council must have ap proval of the municipal board on the higher price Approval originally was received on an ex penditure of The equipment needed In tho new plant includes raw sewage i pumps sludge return pumps primary a chlorinator etc Subdivides Must Pay Wo are caught in the vice said Mayor Henderson Ho pointed out that the com pany the agreement on sharing the cost based on the 250000 estimate We have the who are going to pay for this not the people of the old part of town The only thing we can do is raise the levy on subdivision lots from 300 to I think the agreement with the tannery is good I would not be a party to changing it ho said If wo knew this about higher costs we would have asked for a little more but we wont go back to themV the
