visits our Bogarttown but its doubly pleasant and inspir ing when she is a member of an Institute outside Canada This happened at our August meeting which took the form of a picnic and was held on Mrs A Penroses pleasant treeshaded lawn There were several guests present among them Mrs Mc Donald president of the New market and Mrs Frank Hope and her sisterinlaw Miss Bertha Hope of Ox ford England who is visiting her brother Mr Frank- Hope and Mrs Hope When the business part of our meeting was over our president Mrs McMillan asked Miss Hope if she would tell us something of the WI work in England She proved to be a delightful speak er as was proved both by her talk on Institute work and her telling something of her experi ence when visiting to witness the Passion Play She said that it was a great pleasure to be present at our meeting and so to be able to carry home news of our way of conducting a meeting It differed a little in unessentials but of course our aims were the same and she said that England would always be grateful to Canada for Hope said their meetings began with Jerusalem and end ed with The National Anthem One thing she was going to in troduce at her home of the meeting is over they have games or a little skit by their members of their own dra matic group followed by simple refreshments She thinks ours are wonderful with a social half hour to end the evening They have a Christmas party for the children with tree and gifts something like our Christmas school party and they have a family party on New Years Eve which is always enjoyable Miss Hope is a teacher and she tells us that a hot dinner is serv ed every day It is properly set and served and the childrens table manners are carefully at tended to Meat potatoes vege tables or a salad and a sweet are provided all for the small sum of 50 cents a week Milk is provided free as it was during the war In speaking of their county meetings and the great meeting at Albert hall she said that there could not on account of lack of accommodation be representa tives form every member of neighboring Womens Insti tutes would have to be alternate They make their money by ba zaars and various other ways for after paying the 50 cent fee the same as ours no individual is ask ed for more it comes out of the funds Your scribe for our WI and Mrs McMullan thanked Miss Hope for giving us such a clear view of a across the sea Then Miss Hope I told of her visit to to see the Passion Play She and that for sheer realism and deep religious significance and beauty one could not imagine any thing more wonderful It is staged in the open against a background of magnificent moun tains so that while the audience is protected by a canopy the players are exposed to the wea ther be it fine or pouring rain For the rain they wear water proof clothing under their cos tumes She told of how carefully each character Is screened before he is allowed to take part and of how it is the aim of the play to make people live again the terrible scenes of the Passion She said that the part of Judas was taken so realistically that ones heart bled when he threw down the 30 pieces of silver and fled to his doom And then the strain of watch ing the crucifixion It was al most too real and terrible She said that one never felt one was watching a play One was there in the frantic mob torn by horror and pity and love We of the Bogarttown WI have much to thank Miss Hope for and and trust she will carry back to her WI a message of goodwill from ours Jr Scarboro and Mr and Mrs Roy Cook of Toronto were Sunday guests
