Oct MM Camera Scans Local Flood Areas The entire area between the west end of Water St bridge and the tracks at Newmarket was a raging river Friday night This photo was taken the next morning when the flood waters had receded In foreground can be seen parts of asphalt pavement at side of street Pavement like a rug was lifted and moved by the flood waters The basin below the dam at Fairy Lake Newmarket was almost full of churning water The floodwaters swept across the small park in the background and took out willow trees On Friday night the water swept across the park so swiftly that an elevated river was swirling in a westerly direction across the bridge towards Main St i- The driver of this car was one of the last to attempt to cross one of the flooded areas on Davis Drive Newmarket Friday night Water was up to the windows Needless to say he didnt make it In this area station yards were entirely flooded One man Mr Huntley Prospect St was swept off his feet while he was walking down the railway tracks and was rescued by a fireman Area around Queen St above was one of the worst in Newmarket Some people wore taken from their homes by bout others refused to leave as water kept rising Friday night A boat crew was standing ready at the Queen St bridge on the west side of the flood waters but could not get through piles of lumber which floated down from the Office Specialty yards -K- If V ft i By early Saturday morning when this photo was taken in Newmarkets Queen St flats had receded consider ably Railway tracks were under water the night before and whole area was filled with debris Many washouts along rightofway and twisted rails put an end to railway traffic J A I at Flood is shown at the Office Specialty Mfg Co woodworking department on Timothy St Water rose almost to tho ceiling in the basement of tho plant and damaged stores of fine wood used In manufacture of office furniture The Newmarket fire department was busy with a out the basement the next day department crews And many other volunteers worked all weekend pump out flooded basements n
