fc- Fish was returned presi dent of the Newmarket Horticul tural society for a second term at the annual meeting and elec tion of officers on Tuesday Jan Held In the school room of Trinity United church the meet ing was addressed by John Clark Toronto y- A pot luck supper convened by Mrs Walton preceded the business meeting Grace was pronounced by Rev J and Charles Jamieson moved the vote of thanks to the ladies for the supper The guest soloist was Kenneth Stephens He was accompanied by Mrs Horace John Kudelka expressed ttie so cietys thanks cohtribu- to the program John Clark who was intro duced by Mrs Nelson Ioiv was in charge of the program gave an illustrated talk on roses The colored slides he showed were enjoyed by the large group of gardening enthu siasts who were present lira Campbell moved the vote of thanks to Mr Clark During the annual meeting reports successful year were presented by the secretary Miss Audrey and the treasurer Mrs Jay The president Mr Fish outlined the activities of the society during the past year when five meet ings open to the public were held Each featured an auth ority on some phase of horti culture and were aimed to be di rect assistance to the home own er of the community A visit was made to gardens of Mr and Mrs during tulip time and the sociey held a presentation of movies in aid of the British and Dutch Flood Re lief fund Reports were presented on the various committees Caldwell in his accounting of the show committees work paid tribute to all the volunteer workers members of the society who assisted in the flower and vegetable shows and manned the Horticultural booth at the an nual trade fair He thanked lo cal people who had donated the furnishings for the booth A new trophy donated by Cecil Taylor which will be troduced at the competi tions was shown by Mr trophy a pewter plate was the work of Rudy It will be awarded for the best gladiolus in the show Charles Boyd gave the report on the trade fair He said that the fair was a definite success and that there had been com plete cooperation between the society and the merchants par ticipating Our big problem is that we cant find enough space for all who would like to enter exhibits In fair Mr Boyd I said The Horticultural society through its sponsorship of the trade fair Is providing a service for the entire community as well as for the merchants In the report of the member ship convener Charles it was learned that the member ship for had been This was slight increase over the past year The juvenile the so ciety under the chairmanship of Miss Eva Barnes included the presentation of a subscription of the National Geographic maga zine id each of the five ele mentary schools in town and essay contests were conduct ed in the public schools and the prize winning drawings were ex hibited at the trade fair Bulbs were distributed to the schools and annuals transplanted to the school grounds as a part of the program The civic improvement com mittee had been busy during the past year with Garrett as the convener Rose bushes were planted at the fiospital grounds and annuals were planted at the various municipal and school buildings in the town such as the registry office waterworks and town hall A tree was planted during the Coronation cere monies by the society and the society provided the flowers for the official decorations on that day In the fat bulbs were planted at the fire hall and reg istry office by the society As has been the practice for REPORTS PRESENTED AT ANNUAL MEETING OF HOSP AUXILIARY Among the reports presented at the annual meeting of the York County Hospital Womens Auxiliary were those of the purchasing committee and the treasurer They showed that over 2400 in purchases and donations had made to the hospital
