had heard a voice coming from an innocent looking box we would at once have imagined that it was a ghostly warning that our last hour was near or some dire dis aster threatened Now the radio is as much a part of our lives as our daily bread We hear whats going on in every part of the world we know what the weather Is going to be with never a mistake Never Well hardly ever So when we heard that the four Gentlemen were going to be on the Star Concert we all felt we would be seeing friends whom we had been hearing for a long time There was a sort of holiday air of expectancy in the large audience in Trinity United church on Thursday Dee 3 Whether it was the Spirit of Christmas in the air or the fact that we were being generously offered an evening of free enter tainment whatever the reason every one looked happy and I was reminded of what Ken Morton said in his introductory speech at the last Canadian Concert As sociation Concert that a smiling audience could make for real bet audience and artists A in the absence of A Aik en welcomed the audience and the artists and introduced the Trinity United church choir ask ing Mr to take a bow The choir presented two num bers first a trio Lift Thine Eyes sung by Mrs Arnold Mrs and Mrs Stephens the second number Jesus Calls Us was sung by the choir Ken Morton soloist Both these num bers were enjoyed and spoke eloquently of Mr leader ship and the talent in the choir Then the four gentlemen and their accompanist took over Their beautifully voices spoke of long association and the habit of listening to one another Only so can such achieved In their three groups of songs and encores they gave us a wide variety of selections HUM mow Birthday wishes are extended this week to Percy James Nolan Sutton West years old on Friday birthday The Scots present I know by the one beside me were thrilled by Loch Lomond and Road to the Isles But Scots Irish English or miscellaneous all were given with a beauty of love and expres sion that made them a delight to listen to Their effortless per formance and their generous res ponse to encores endeared them further to an audience already captivated by their singing Have you ever seen heavenly blue morning glories given faces and motion That was the first thing that entered my mind when the four members of the En chanted Strings made their ap pearance They were certainly a delight to watch not alone for their flowerlike appearance but for their mastery of those flashing bows Here again in their ensemble playing as in the four gentle mens singing was shown the re sult of association over periods of time You could feel their close- knit accord and one felt the rest ful delight that perfect harmony can give Their technique was something to wonder at and they gave us a variety of selections that enabled us to see and admire their mast ery of a difficult instrument The accompanists for both sets of ar tists were admirably suited to their difficult and exacting work I noticed with delight how lit tle the accompanist of the male quartet watched his music He watched his singers anil was en tirely one with them Rev Mr in a few words thanked the artists for a delightful even ing There only one conclusion and this applies to all who spoke we lost a great deal of what they said If this could be remedied it would odd to understanding and enjoyment is to be
