nominations and elec tions Speculation runs high as to the many who might seek of fice this year People are talking about Main St the dogs taxi licences as sessments and any number of topics In some instances the speaker takes the opportunity to congratulate the retiring council for their work this year At other times the impression remains that if the speaker were to be elected next year would see a much improved and more efficient municipal government As the time of the nomination meeting approaches more names are put forward- Too often their owners are the last to know of their proposed venture onto the stormy sea of local politics But all the talk interest in school board matters appears to be at low ebb- Humor has it that one of the retiring candidates will not seek re-election- Cath arines newspaper There on the front page was a story about an archery shoot in Newmarket It was great to read some thing about home Stuart wrote his parents Mr and Mrs Ted Mitchell Copies of the will stage its Santa parade under the auspices of the local Chamber of Commerce Many groups are busy with plana for their floats The Legion Ladies auxiliary Newmarket Home and School association have Contributes For Hospital Expansion Program The Newmarket Lions club de cided to contribute 1000 to the York County hospital fund for an additional wing The club contributed to the Santa Claus parade fund at a dinner meeting on Monday even ing The club members were hosts to a large number of visitors from Lions clubs in the district including Aurora Bradford and Richmond Hill Mayor Joseph Vale was guest speaker of the evening and both Fred Thompson and Moff Cock- burn in introducing the mayor paid glowing tribute for his long service to the town He has been on town council since Mayor Vale who Reconsider Library Plans Hope To See New Building Plans to purchase a residence on Church St for a public lib rary have been changed and a committee of members of the town council public library board and members of the Newmarket Rotary club have recommended the construction of a new build ing for the library At the last meeting of council a resolution was passed to pro vide to the library board for preliminary sketches for a new building The library board has made arrangements to en gage an architect Possible location for the new building discussed by the library board is on Park Ave not agree This years council however has reached the point beyond ordin ary criticism and tolerance I shall not comment on ccr- because I have no proof of their authenticity However there tain to be defin ite favoritism on the part of cer tain members of council Somebody must stop that I am out to fight and if possible to eliminate the two Joes and what I might think to be a satellite clique in council should think it to be a duty of every voter who might agree with me on this subject not only to vote for me but his circum stances permitting to offer htuv self as my running mate to
