night Oct only a passing reference was made to the special report presented by Mr Offord to the commissions previous meeting concerning the ser vices of the recreation director It was pointed out by read publicly should have been available to the press for closer study Mr Buchan an ruled against that in direct opposition to an earlier directive contained in the commissions records If it is intended to smother the report a condition of conjec ture will be created which will not enhance the com missions reputation NOTHING DONE So far nothing has been done in connection with the danger spots on Yonge St to which attention has been drawn The bad weather may soon be upon us and then it will be too late for action The council takes no responsibility for accidents to citizens except in instan ces of proven negligence But is it not a case of proven negligence on the part of council if it is made aware of danger spots and then neglects to take steps to remove them Such a danger spot exists at the Bank of Montreal where at least three citizens have fallen on the tricky pavement It was understood that this was to be cor rected but the matter has not so far been raised in council Services Of Director Not Discussed A long meeting of the recreation commission took place on Thursday night Oct when among other subjects the subject of free ice time was again to the fore It was recognized that town council had done its best to meet the situation Mr vicechair man of the commission and chair man of its finance committee presented a schedule of working hours for the director and his as sistant The arrangements made for average working hours for the director and his assistant rep resent approximately hours per week Mr said that in the past there had been no systemat ic 19 was a letter received by the mayor from the department of national defence in connection with the location and movement of tanks at the armories The department submitted a Mr ArdlU to get his window hut plan which would include the undertaking of work at the armories on the completion of which the letter appeared to request that responsibility for road repairs among other mat ters would
