could be added that it was a wonderfully bright warm day But to the contrary the weather was as uncooperative as it had been on our previous halfdozen trips to this lake It rained heavily It brighten ed sufficiently to deceive us into believing that perhaps the show ers were We began prep- for lunch outofdoors It showered again Finally after much manipulating of Macin toshes and souwesters which had not prevented our being drench- being piled neatly at the campsite while we were off gathering wood for the fire we decided that since we were lilts wet we might as well complete the drenching with a swim That part was wonderful On previous trips to Black Lake we have suffered such ad verse weather for our pleasure jaunts as snow and at that it knee deep temperature at two degrees below zero al though on that day it was clear and bright fog so that it had been impossible to see the lake We wore reassur ed by a local resident that it was just a few feet beyond the curtain of smog And on last journey into the hinder- land we had travelled what seemed endless miles of detours caused by the heavy spring rains which had turned the regular route into a series of axledeep ruts and bottomless mire With such a weather history we know better than to believe the forecasts for a sunny holiday but on we went with the prep arations This particular acre or so of country which has claimed our fancy is located on a point jutting out into Black Lake From the many conver sations we have had with other enthusiasts we gath er that there must be at least a dozen or so Black Lakes in that district but our Black Lake is located about a half mile west of No highway approximately eight miles north of Norland It Is connected by Black River to Moore Lake and it is possible to travel from Black Lake through a chain of rivers and lakes south to Lake Simcoe or north through the beautiful country Because it is small in size be ing under three miles in length it is almost unknown for a squall to churn up its placid waters In fact one of the guides who has hunted and fished in that district for many years claims that it is always jit like a millpond So to our visions of trips through these water ways tho trout and bass fishing the deer hunting in fall and the summer swimming and pic nicking are added plans for canoeing About Those Kittens By the way three little kit tens at the home of the New market Ions are developing an inferior complex They cant understand it Dont people in town like cats one of them asked us this morning as we at tempted to console them with a pint of warm milk mixed with some pieces of sugared bread Dont talk with your mouth full and keep your back feet out of the dish wc said stalling for time Many people were on their holidays last week Cer tainly they like cats It was very nice hearing from the many readers about their interest in cats and in this col umn generally We appreciate such But lets come to the point that isnt tak ing a kitten BELL SMITH In St Andrews Presbyterian church Newmarket decorated with baskets of mixed peonies and delphinium the wedding took place on June of Grace Isabel daughter of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Smith
