rinks were as follows Barry J and skip points leading by J Rogers A J It Howard skip points leading for by Pell From a Last Monday a chimney on the res idence of Sir Hannah on the Con of Whitchurch took fire In bis attempt to climb upon the roof and thus protect the house the ladder slipped and Mr fell to the ground dislocating his shoul der Mr is father of Mr I of this Town and be ing over CO years of age he be some time getting over the effects it High School At a meeting of the Board on Wed nesday afternoon J Jackson was elected chairman for and Mr J Robertson reappointed Secre tary The audited accounts or showed a good on hand to commence the year with the Principal reported that everything was working harmoniously in the school with a good attendance The following Standing Committees were appointed Repairs and Supplies Messrs J J Pearson and Dr Wesley W field Webb and Father Whitney Finance Wesley Messrs A I and J Proctor The Science Master was authorized to purchase supplies and apparatus for the Science to the extent of Hoard adjourned for anyone who chose to invest his money Torontos Application Last session Toronto asked for the right to Installs plant and sell pow er to other the right to be exercised by the consent of the ratepayers or at the will the mu nicipal Council as the House might When It came before the mu nicipal committee not a member of it would undertake the re sponsibility of advocating It It was Sit without a provision that the Court of Appeal or some other body should adjust the prices the outside municipalities too much at the mercy of Toronto and their industries could be destroyed Perhaps Toronto would not have done that but the House did not want to see any municipality put in a position to crush the industries of any other municipality Neither were willing to give a munici pality power to expend or without a reference to the ratepayers which was in violation of the municipal law What are we willing to do Mr went on We are not un willing to give to Toronto the right to install an electric plant for its own use providing the electors vote the money that may be required Perhaps you may say You need not care much what- Toronto says Well but we must care as a Legis lature We must protect the tax payers and if Toronto ratepayers or a majority of them are willing to go into an undertaking of this kind that will cost or let them take the responsibility they will have to pay the shot when the bills come to be paid bur let them do it with their eyes open We are unwilling to allow Toronto to be able to control the electric power we Shall not allow the municipalities of Ontario to be subject to another Government Will Not Do It If the Government undertook to de velop power as was suggested Mr proceeded plant would cost about and transmission to Toronto would cost more Hut as the whole Province would have to be served there would need to be as many miles of transmission wires as say railways or miles That would cost But as the current weakened with distance the price would increase Tor each unit of power the farther from Niagara That would make it neces sary to move the manufacturing area to the Niagara District Hut the power would not reach say beyond and powers would be called for from St Lawrence the Ottawa the Magnet await so as to an electric zone I frankly say I have not the cour age to embark on such a large scheme now said the Premier J would not want in courage in any matter that I thought we could car ry on successfully hut would hesi tate to enter upon such a large under- taking while electricity has not yet been so thoroughly developed as to give it I tremble at the thought of amassing or debt on the Province It you are hot to serve the whole Prov ince And if not the whole Province del an assumed name and record a vote that North York will be proud of Hon Postmas terGeneral was ushered on the platform having just arrived and given a- warm re As he rose to speak MiSs pleased to see the signs extermin ation and hope on the of present No public deserves the recognition of his coun trymen more than Mr Davis and be hoped that North York citadel of free Join would see to it that she stands by the representative of liberalism and five Davis a thousand majority use After cheers the King Davis and Mulock the meeting broke up about five oclock Two Sides the Question In come just as we are now doing Measures will no doubt be submitted at the coming session and we must not al low ourselves to be stampeded by rash expressions The Farmer Members For instance The World said yes terday The farmer members have been the most generous In bestowing upon the monopolists It was the farmer members and your selves among them that prevented Toronto having a monopoly and the had better withdraw its as to the farmer members standing out for the monopolists and write up the history of the for Toronto You will find us ready to embark upon any industry the good which we can see will im pose no debt on the Province On tario unless It fa for the benefit of the whole people Mr Itofifl concluded with a refer ence to the temperance question He said he was willing to go as far as public opinion warranted The Gov ernment would not be revolutionary on this or oh any other question He did not know how far they could go at a jump They might attempt too much He hoped what they would do would be worthy of the cause all that had been done for temperance had been l Liberal party Cheers Mr Hill for West York being introduced was glad to that the Reformers of North York were ready for action The Conservative cry of corruption made him sick People had not for gotten the Pacific the Cur- ran bridge and the franchise Jerry mander perpetrated by the Conserva tive party when In power- were three essentials of sue good a good leader and a good candidate He reminded them that they hid all In Mr Davis Now just let us examine this pre sentation of the case by the Suppose Mr Davis had stood his ground and Mr Lennox had been found guilty and disqualifi ed who would Mr Davis look to for his costs over and above the deposit Could he make it out of his oppon ent Could he draw blood from a stone Theres the rub Then again if Hon Mr Davis had been guilty of any infringement of the election Act of such diameter as to unseat him if he had been guilty boodlmg as he above extract suggests and disqualified therefor why in the name of every thing honest or true the tho electors who supported Lennox at the May election in the- name of the people who hurrahed for him at the sandy plains of Soldiers Bay last summer did he accept a sawoff of costs and throw up the sponge Mr Davis frankly told his Liberal friends that to resist the protest would cost him double as much as to run another election and in order to avoid this expense and con- sequent bitterness of feeling which would be of a protracted investigation he would rather appeal to the electors and ask for a verdict at their hands and we have no hesi tancy in venturing the- opinion that the people of North York will en dorse the action of Mr Davis most emphatically Now wait and Waiter United Win Gray i A- Yule duty
