A Grimsby woman, Mrs. Madeline Suholotink, 48, of 59 Fairview Road, Grimsby, was pronounced dead on arrival at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, the victim of a head-on collision on No. 8 Highway, two miles west of town shortly after 9:30 Saturday morning.
Her husband, Michael, age 55, is in West Lincoln with head and chest injuries. His condition was reported by hospital authorities as "satisfactory".
Driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle involved, Ted Sitarski, 21, of Grassie, was removed to St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, for treatment of a leg injury. He is also suffering from multiple facial lacerations.
Police, in trying to reconstruct the accident, which occurred on a curve in the highway, believe Suholotink lost control of his vehicle, dropping off on to the shoulder of the road, and apparently Sitarski was unable to avoid the head-on collision. A light rain was falling at the time of the accident. Both cars were demolished. Provincial Constable Culkeen of the Smithville detachment investigated.
Deceased was born in the Ukraine about 50 years ago, and has lived in Canada for the past 31 years.
Surviving, besides her husband, are 3 sisters, Mrs. Harry Kuczenka, Mrs. Annie Chernowskoc, and Mrs. Poline Dubos, also one brother, Augustine Zawalnycki. All are residents of Fort William.
Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, Grimsby. Burial was made in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
