- Full Text
Widely known throughout this entire county, Charles "Pete" Tallman of Beamsville, passed away quietly at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital early Wednesday morning. He was in his 64th year. His passing, following a prolonged illness, severs a link with the past for a multitude of people who had known this jovial and engaging personality from the time they were children.
For 40 years, "Pete" was a barber by trade, associated with the late "Barb" Reid. Deceased was also widely known as one of the originals of the Beamsville Citizens' Band, with which organization he eventually became the leader, and as such took tremendous pride in the showing of the band, whether it was at the Canadian National Exhibition, or marching down the main street of a hundred cities, towns and villages in this part of Ontario.
Son of the late Peter Tallman and Jennie Tufford, deceased was a vital part of the Village of Beamsville for the greater part of his life, moving to St. Catharines about 6 years ago, where he became Superintendent of the County Building. He was chairman of the Beamsville Board of Education in 1934, and served on the Board for several years. A member of the Ivy Lodge, he was a valued member of the Church of Christ.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, the former Fern Reid, a daughter Ruth (Mrs. Richard Milne), one son Peter, and two grandsons, Craig and Robert. Also 4 sisters, Mrs. Howard Richardson (Goldie) and Mrs. Donald McKenzie (Gertie), both of Little Current. Mrs. C.G. McPhee (Grace) of Beamsville, and Mrs. Russell Peckham (Cora) of Port Credit, one brother, Willis, of Birmingham, Michigan, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the J.W. Buck and Son Funeral Home, Beamsville. Burial to be made in Mount Osborne Cemetery.
