(Continued on Page 5) C. S. Bean, editor of the Indepenâ€" dent, was reâ€"appointed to the Library Board for a term of three years. Grants Requested Requests for grants to the Salvation Army and the Sick Children‘s Hosâ€" pital were laid on the table. It was pointed out that the town was assistâ€" ing the former through the county grant while in the case of the latter A resolution, introduced by Reeve Mogg and Councillor Lothian, grantâ€" ing the amount of $1200 requested was unanimously approved by the council. Reeve Mogg took occasion to refer to the value of that institution to the town and thanked the members of the Library Board for the service they were rendering without remunâ€" eration to the municipality. Police Report The police report for the month of December showed one police court case, thirteen complaints investigated, fines of $18.50 paid to the treasurer and 19 transients accommodated. Grant To Library Board William Montgomery, speaking on behalf of the Public Library Board, reviewed in detail the requirements of the Board for the current year, the sum of $1800 being required to . efâ€" ficiently operate that institution for the year, part of which would be takâ€" en care of by the township. He pointâ€" ed to the large number of patrons beâ€" ing served both in the town and townâ€" ship and the valued asset it was to the community. The Board, he said, last year pared outlays to the very minimum. An amount of $1200, hel stated, would be needed this year from the town while the township would be approached to provide the remainder of the amount required. He also observed that a considerable portion of relief was confined to a certain secâ€" tion where unsatisfactory housing conditions existed and suggested that the building inspector see that any buildings erected come up to a cerâ€" tain standard. The. Mayor. recomâ€" mended continuance of careful finâ€" ancing in order that our credit be maintained and hoped that in a short time it would be possible to reduce the burden of taxation. in other places. He again expressed the view that men on relief should work for what they got and intimated that approval of the relief projects which the town was to undertake had come through from the government. Reeve Mogg Reeve Mogg also extended a welâ€" come to the new council members and hoped every one would coâ€"operate, one with the other. Alluding to the reâ€" lief problem, he regretted that it had become. such a burden, here as well as REGULARâ€"SESSION GRIMSEY COUNCIL A number of farmers are taking advantage of the recent heavy fall of snow to utilize their sleighs in comâ€" ing to town, sleighing being excellent at the present time.
