The finals for the second annual Mu- l 'sical Festival for Lincoln County held] in Beamsville Saturday, April 21st, at- tracted nearly 2000 people who packed the spacious Community hall to capac- . ity during the afternoon and evening, the morning session was also well at-1 tended. In the afternoon between 700‘ and 800 school children took part in school choruses and in the evening‘ High School Choirs, Womens' rnsti-) tute choruses, Church Choirs, and Or-1 chestras were mostly in evidence and provided most acceptable entertain- ment of a high class nature to the ’many interested friends from nearly every township, village, town and city within a radius of thirty miles or more. Visitors were also present from Brantford and Toronto. The contest- ants in the individual classes provided popular selections which were greatly enjoyed by the very appreciative au- dience. S. J. Wilson, M.P.P. acted as chair- man in the morning, Rev. DeRose in the afternoon, and Wm. Bell, in the evening, most acceptably. The adjudi- cations made by Messrs. W. H. Hew- Jett, Mus. Bac. and G. Roy Fenwick, Mus. Bac. both of Hamilton, were con- sidered by even the most critical to be exceptionally constructive and fair to everyone. Their remarks suggesting improvement, and encouragement for future work were much appreciated by the contestants particularly. Copies of the adjudicators scores and remarks are available to the con- testants, and may be secured by writ- ing the secretary, Mrs. C. P. Glass, cio Agricultural Office, St. Catharines, en- closing a self-addressed stamped en- velope. . Cups or other trophies are being pro- vided by the Assn. and other donors very generously in practically every class of the 42 on the list and these will be presented to the winners at a Gold Medalist Concert which the exe- cutive are planning to hold in St. Ca- tharines possibly May 3rd and which will be announced shortly. Besides these trophies, gold and silver medals will be presented to all those who won first and second in their classes, pro- vided they obtained over 80 or 70% respectively, other than those in the choral and group classes. Three schol- arships have also been arranged, one in vocal, one in piano, and one in vio- lin. These will also be presented at the time of the Gold Medalists concert and have been won by the following: Vocal, Norman Upper; Piano, Ed- ward Hattey; Violin, Victor Scherer.
