Lincoln County has the best road system . of any county in the Province, a fact which is well appreciated by the resiâ€" dents of the County when they begin to travel on roads in adjoining counâ€" ties. The improvement of the roads has followed fast upon the increase in the number of motor vehicles and now the greater number of the farmers can step into their car and motor . to their shopping centre without worry that they will get stuck in the mud. Loh it D l ce h jor flkeâ€" 0t Acompbiy ;. r j bsent itc Mc C Eind The Council has yet to cover some 40 miles of clay roads in the western end of the County and will on Tuesâ€" day of next week make a tour of inâ€" spection over the roads in the eastern section. No money is to be spent on construction this year, but the roads are to be maintained in a firstâ€"class condition. Wednesday‘s tour Of inspection was made by seventeen of the eighteen members of the County Council, led by Road Engineer F. N/ Rutherford and Road Chairman Hans Gracey. The start was made by the eastern memâ€" bers at St. Catharines, the first stop being Jordan, Where . consideration was given to a redquest from Mr. Marâ€" key of the Jordan Hotel that some means be adopted to keep motorists from running over the end of the sideâ€" walk. From Jordan the party conâ€" tinued to Beamsville, where the addiâ€" tional members Wwere picked up. Cleanses mouth and teeth and aids digestion. Relieves that overâ€" eaten feeling and acid mouth. Its lâ€"aâ€"sâ€"tâ€"iâ€"nâ€"g flavor satisfies the craving for sweets. Starting out again the tour took the party through St. Anns to Wellandport, along the road to‘ Fenwick to the town line between Linâ€" coln and Welland, along the town line to the west road through Bisâ€" mark, returning to Smithville, then travelling west along the old Buckbee road, north through Grassies, west on the ridge road to the Wentworth Counâ€" ty line, returning on the ridge road to the County stone quarry. : The Stone Quarries The tour also included a trip to the Grimsby quarry, a quarry abanâ€" doned by the County because of the damage being done to surrounding property, due to the â€"heéavy â€" charges. This quarry, if cleaned up, would make an ideal picnic or camping ground. During the spring and early summer there is â€"a natural water fall and the spot is one of natural beauty, unimproved by man‘s hand. acre of land for $2,500. This airâ€" drome is used to house the road machinery of the County and also contains a work shop where the reâ€" pair of tools is carried on. . About half of the machinery in the ‘shed is for sale, including road rollers and general road machinery. The purâ€" chase of this airdrome has proved â€" a wide step as all of the costly inachinâ€" ery can now be kept under cover throughout the winter, The situaâ€" tion is central and the ~general surâ€" roundings good. The Beamsville quarry on the ridge road is now being worked and some excellent stone is being taken out. It has now become necessary to start blasting further back from the old seat of operations and this work is to be carried out. ; From the Beamsvillé quarry the party motored down the Parkâ€" Mounâ€" tain and on into Beamsville. The trip in total covered 145 miles, of which it has been estimated 100 miles were over County roads. A further incentive to the building of improved roads has been given to Townships by the Provincial Governâ€" ment in their recent announcement that hereafter the Province would bear 50 per cent. of the salary of Township road superintendents and 30 per cent. of the cost ‘of construction. This is an increase of 10 per cent. in each case. The Province also pays 40 per cent. on all maintenance and vonstructior on County roads. The Olden Days Compared Pictures of travel in the olden days depicted the customers arriving at the County seat in an old wagon or stoneboat, but today that picture must be changed for now the cusâ€" tomers are able‘to call daily in their cars un roads which provide the best of motoring facilities. Lincoln Counâ€" ty can well boast of having, the best roads in the Province, outside the main Provincial highways. / Thirtyâ€"two years ago the now famâ€" ous "SALADA®" Tea was placed on the market in metal packages. .~SALADA" was the pioneer package tea in Canâ€" ada. Immediately its superior flavor and purity won for it a great popularâ€" ity that has been growing ever since. It is still a little different and a little better than ordinary tea. â€"Advt.
