Grimsby made m DJ GOUNTY GOUNGIL TAKES A FALL _ OUT OF DAYLIGHT SAVING SGHEME Rubs It Into St. Catharines City For Adopting Such a Silly Idea â€" Merritton _ Receives County Grantâ€"Estimates of Roads and Bridges Work Submitted. The Lincoln County Council is opâ€" posed to/ daylight saving and intend to make this fact plain to the St. Catharines council, that, such "silly nonsence" may not â€" be carried through â€" again. At _ Wednesday‘s monthly session of the Council an atâ€" tempt to havée the council follow preâ€" cedent and "While in Rome do as the Romans Do" failed utterly. Councillors Stewart and Haynes preâ€" sented a motion to adopt daylight saving for council sessions, but the majority said no. In the closing moments of the sesâ€" sion Councillors Mitchell of North Grimsby ard Gracey of South Grimsâ€" by introduced a resolution which reâ€" quests the City Fathers to have the daylight Saving Bylaw*repealed. At first the majority thought the resoluâ€" tion a joke, and it was somewhat in this spirit that it passed, the council knowing full well that the ratepayers} and not the council of St. Catharines had voted for daylight saving. The resolution follows: "That whereas the soâ€"called Dayâ€" light Saving Bylaw put in force in the city of St. Catharines, is very detrimental to parties doing business in the city we would appoint the Warden and Councillors Stewart, Haynes, Dawson and Wellington a Committee to wait upon the Mayor and Council of the city and respectâ€" fully request that the said Daylight Saving Bylaw be repealed." Cal'ried. In speaking to the motion Counâ€" cillor Mitchell stated _ that Daylight Saving Wwas a huge joke, too foolish to talk about. Councillor Gracey stated that when the business interests of St. Catharâ€" ines learned that the trade of the western portion of the county was inz to standard time Hamilton, ‘hen they would desire a revision for this city. f illor Masters. of Niagaraâ€"O0nâ€" theâ€"Lake. expressed the opinion that| it was strongly in the interests of. the farming community to have this silly nonsense done . away with. "When such a body goes on record as favoring daylight saving we stulâ€" tify ourself," he said. "I don‘t ‘beâ€" lieve the City Council can act but we can place our feelings before them." It is doubtful however if the City Council will even hear from the deâ€" putation, three of the five appointees having already signified their reâ€" fusal to be on such a delegation. Councillors Dawson, Stewart and Haynes have refused to act. _ Merritton Grant . The Town of Merrit‘ on is to receive a substantial grant from the County to assist them to finish the paving of Merritton street from the English Church to the Thorold Town Line. Provisions for this grant, said BÂ¥ Reeve Richardson of Merritton to be $50,000 , was made by the Council Wednesday. The highway is to be concrete. ~ ‘While sitting in Road Committee the Council heard a large deputaâ€" tion from Gainsboro and Pelham Townships who requested the Canâ€" boro road be built this year to the Gainsboro boundary, a distance of about a mile and a half. Roads Chairman Kemp gave the deputation no hope of having the road built this year, saying that the road programme had been adopted and that it was not a good policy to include new work this late in the year. 2 j Roads Councillor Kemp presented the reâ€" port of the Road Committee, which made the following recommendaâ€" tions : That we have made the an%ual inâ€" spection of the County roads and found roads in good condition, and construction going forward in some sections. 1 Reports "ho reports of the Road, Printing and Building, Bridge and Finance Committees were received and adoptâ€" ed.
