Neither Mr. Millard nor his daughâ€" ter saw the car and apparently did not hear the gong on the car ringâ€" ing, as there was a very high wind | blowing. Motorman Dunsmore did not see the horse and rig till he had struck them. He claims that he rang his gong for all the crossings along there. On azcount of a very high everâ€" green â€" hedge, which borders all along the front of Mr. C. W. F. Car penter‘s property, it is impossible for either a motorman or a driver of a rig to see one another. Mr. Milâ€" lard could not see the car and the motorman coula not see him. Mr. Millard is one of the Niagara District‘s finest citizens, having moved kere from India, 8 years ayo and purchased the fine residence and fruit farm of Mr. Fred Henry. w. Ss. MILLARD AND DAUGHTER STRUCK BY H. 6. & B. CAR . G. & B. car No. 301. in charge of Conductor Powell and Motorman Dunsmore, leaving Grimsgby at 1.40 p. m..! stfuck the, rig of Mr. W.. 9. Millard at the crossing of Mr. C. W. F. Carpenter on Thursday last withi serious results. Mr. Millard and his daughter Esme had been up to Mr. Col. Carpenter‘s and were driving out of the crossing on the west side of Mr. C. W. F. Car penter‘s house, when the car struck them. Mr. Millard was thrown out _ of the rig and clean over the fence, while his daughter landed on top of the fence. The horse was thrown into the ditch on the north side of the car and was instantly killed, the rig was smashed into kindling wood. The car was brought to a standâ€" still in a very short distance and Mr Millard 2and his daughter were takâ€" en to the Hamilton hospital in it. Upon examination at the hospital, it was found that Mr. Millard‘s collar bones were both broken and his hip was also broken, he was jarred up considerably and had a few scratches about the head and face. f Miss Millard was more fortunate, no bon :s being broken, and outside of the shaking up and a few bruises, she is alright. ! A week later he arrived at Grimsâ€" by again and called at the Indepenâ€" \dent and got out a lot of advertising (we got our money) this time he was accompanied by his brother. Soon after opening. up business, his father and mother, moved to Grimsby and took up housekeeping in the old M. Durham property on Depot St ! Everythianz seemed to be running smoothly ind Staley appeared to be lmai;ing money, as he was drawing big crowds to the theatre and his expenses did not appear to be heavy. It; C+ would strot _ aroundâ€" town wilth tiat knowâ€"itâ€"all manuaer about him that he soon had all the fellows sore on him and this is probably what saved them from getting stung too. At the present writing he is progressing as favorably as can be expected. GRIMSBY IS STILL IN THE "E. Z. MAnmna*: CLASS H. C. Stayley is the Latest Flimâ€" Flammer Early in March of this year, there dropped into Grimsby a young felâ€" low â€" about twenty or twentyâ€"one years of age, and gave his name as He stated that he intended openâ€" ing up a moving picture show in this village and was looking around for a good place to open in. He secured Snetsinger‘s hall for that purpose and immediately left for Galt to get his apparatus in shape to ship to Grimsby. town About two weeks ago ‘the show closed for the summer and then it leaked out that H. C. did not own the theatre at all, but it was his brother who owned it, then things began to hum. Different people tackled him for money he had borrowed from them and he could not come across with the coin because he did not have :t. Then he made a visit to A. . B. Bourne‘s store and borrowed two dollars from Henry Hillier (Henry was stung two months ago) and gave him a cheque in payment of it, signing his brother‘s name to the cheque. ‘â€"â€"On Monday, the father and broâ€" ther had settled up all the borrowed money debts and had taken up the cheques. One of the worst cases of his borâ€" rowing, was where he borrowed seventeen dollars from a certain young lady of this village, and even refused to pay it back. Part of the money he borrowea from her, hs usea w go to Galt to see another girl. Even the rent was not paid, $15 being due to R. J. Snetsinger, the owner of the hall. On Friday morning last, Chief of Police Swayze issued a warrant for Staley‘s arrest, as he had blown the town and all trace had been lost of him. The Chief immediately communiâ€" cated with the police in Galt and they stated they would be on the lookout for him and from what we could learn this is not the first time that he has been in trouble. The. brother.. 0. J., is a nice apâ€" pearing, quiet, wellâ€"mannered young man and his father is also a very nice man to meet, and just where this young gent gets his tendency to stray from the beaten path, we do not know. > Mr. Jas. Aitchison appeared on behalf of the Library Board, for part of the library grant. He was given $150.
