Mr. Adkins is still connected with the Iron Roofin business in Preston and reports every thine booming. : \@ Jas, A. Livingston for sixteen years the publisher of the Independent, reâ€" turned home from New York on Sun day eveniag to take charge of the paper again. Duriog the three days that he has been in the office there have beea many callersâ€"â€"friends who ciame to welcome him back to his old seat in the editorial chair. All of these got a warm welcome to the office. There were also two other gentlemen cams to pay their respects and it is no exaggeration to say that the word warm does not convey & c sar and. definite idea of the welcoms tnat those gentlemen received from Mr. Livingston. The word "Hot" and flimiug red hot would be more like it. Tae welcome was so hot and extended iua such a firm and convincing manner and couched in language so earnest and at the same so eloquent and imâ€" pressive and so padde1 out with the proper adjsctives, investives _ and superlatives that both gentlemen, who had come to the scratch with smiles of selfâ€"confidence, selfâ€"righteousness and hypocrasy on _ their countenancest lmade hasty exits, the one ~with the blanch of fear on his face, the other } with the glitter of rage in his eys. The first that came was W. P Philips, who for ten years: was th foreman, manager and coufinental private secretary of the man that a the last he tried to blacken and ruin W. E Phillip:, the min that had been trusted in every way that is possible for one man to trast another, that had full charge of business, books and everything else be onging to Mr. Livingston and yet ran to Hamilto to swear to all kinds of affadavits t keep his own employer under a capias W. E. Phillips, the man having ful charge of the Indepedent, eatered in to a conspiracy with another man t exploit, wreck and ruin the busines that he had got his living out of fo fifteen years, and while yet in th employ of the Independent‘ and r ceiving money for his services, advise new customers not to advertise in th Independent, but to wait a week an advertise in the new Weekly Sun Yes this traitor got a warm welcoms when he called on Mr. Livingston and one that will be a night mare to him for many » night. f The other gentleman was John R. Brown, the proposed publisher of the‘ proposed "Weekly Sun." He too | showed bhis keen ~sense of honor and undying friendship, by calling to wel-‘ come Mr. Livingston "back to Om~'l ada." This man, who when he wanted to go into business in Grimshyk could‘nt g> in like a man and start his business without entering into a con-‘ spiracy to wreck another business.| This was the man that had coaxed the printers away from the Independent 'by the offer of more wages, after he had already hired the manager and Two Welcome Visitors Well! Welcome ! Welcome ! Judge oh <ye (Gods how Ceasar loved him. And a hot welcome it was for John R. Brown. A weiâ€" come that made every snake, skunk and gromnnd hog shiver: aod turn in their boles when thsy heard it. ‘A welcome that made the hairâ€"eeap_on the head of every coward, sneak and poltroon in the community and a wel. come that Jonn R Brown will never | forget. The Indepsndent has bsen conductâ€" ed for many years with fair play to all and malice to none. The publisher has bsen hard hit but through it all he has been a man rigzht up to hilt. He has stood up for the weak and he has helped the poor, He has taken the worst end of it, in order that other men might be protected. He has never cringed or crawled for anybody and he is not going to do it now, and 1:t W. E. Phillips and John R. Brown keep out of his office or he will make them fit subjects for a sausage mill.
