Hi early training was in nurserywork but in 1933 he went into anOfficer‘s Training School| for the Polih Amy, where he remained until gradution in 1935. After that Eddie rturned home until the German Rndits swept WWMI“MMM' some fighting to do. Ater retreat~ ing through his own ountry he was forced to surrendr to tnc Russians who allowedhim to go home for four montlh but then ]mmmed to send himto Siberia to work. But Eddie ws too fast | for them. He hopped ovr the bordâ€" er and managed to reah Rumania where Sikorski was in he process of forming a Polish Amy to join the Allies When Edde arrived Sikoraki‘s forces were richer by one well trained officer. ‘The first stop for the nev army was in Palestine where its trainâ€" ing was completed an: then they moved on to Egypt anl joined the British Eighth. Ths was in 1940. Eddie fought alon; the Egyptianâ€" Libyan frontier witil the summer of 1941 when he, among ouqu was trapped in Tobrik. He was there for some six nunths, until December of ‘41 when Monty and the 8th moved in to turn them loose. For four more bng months the Polish boys were among the occupation troops in Libya and \MlnApfllol'l!M""lfl" back to Egypt where they joined other Poles in forminga full fledâ€" ged Polish army. Shatly afterâ€" wards they joined Mortgomery in "Emde . Action came fint for them in the: Monte Casino area of Italy where they were .“m in defense. ‘Then when the big offensive got under way they moved up the penâ€" insula with theBritish and Ameriâ€" cans. Rome wastaken and then they came to Boligna. The attack had bogged down at : little town called Solarolo and dfficulty was experienced in trying to effect a crossing of the Lugo Cmal. Eddic‘s company was on the flank of the attack. With a quick thrust and what amounted to utter disregard for personal safety, heled his men in beyond the enemy lines, blocked MEE‘ CAPTAIN EDDIE an enemy counter itack and isoâ€" lated the town. The move resulted in an easy crossing f the importâ€" ant Lugo Canal, the capture by his company of some 22 prisoners. and all the equipment of the opâ€" posing enemy company. For that they gave Eddie a Siver Star. The war ended not long after this and the Polish boys remained where they had been doing the fighting. They took special training and in 1946 were meved to Engâ€" land. From there Fidie came to Canada, being let in on an affaâ€" duvit from his brothr who was living in Saskatchewin. He did not receive his final demobilization papers 1948. From Halifax, Ediie went out west and stayed for about a year. He found it a drawhick not being able to speak Englishand so came to Ontario where he thought his chances of learning the tongue would be better. A. the present he is on holidays fron class but all winter he attends the Canadianizaâ€" tion school conducted by Mr. Donâ€" Cersmn cmerligns lon fast and as for grapes, well there he is on familar ground for he was in charge f a fair sized vineyard in Poland, ald / cipal CHPTC ‘The training in nursery wobk that he had in the Old Country has stood Eddie in god stead here. He is now a valuate man to the Coles and although fruits such as peaches are new to iim he catches . r WODE EBs ELE sucu As we were leaving Eddie turnâ€" ed to John and said something in Polish. "He says )w‘s happy to here," said John as Fddie climbed his picking ladder with his grin as broad as ever. ‘ The main go beween Rizzo and McGilivray brought the crowd to its feet, and the jJudges‘ decision for Rizzo was nota popular one. McGilivray foughta good defensive fight, and yet landd the more sol« id blows, having Rizzo at hi mercy on three ocasions, however, he could not seem © find the powâ€" er to polish Rizszooff, but yet in the minds of mostof the fans, judges really miasd the boat givâ€" ing the decision toRizzo.
