Some really fine track and field men have already entered from as distant as Brooklyn, N.Y., &o the day takes on an international flayâ€" or this year. ‘The gals are penetrating the softball scene this summer . . . and although matters are rather cloudâ€" ed at the present time, indications are that a six team girls league will be in operation this summer. Besides Winona and Grassies, entâ€" ries are expected from two and perhaps three Grimsby teams, and of course, the Beach is likely to have another strong team as soon as school is out for the summer. Doc Schwab, Grimsby‘s famous old (?) man of softball may not be wearing the mask this summer, but he will pilot the Grimsby team, which at the present time has no sponsorâ€"no sweatersâ€"no nothing, except plenty of enthusiasm, which after all is the important thing. Grimsby should have a very strong entry this summer, and with Frank Bouk coaching, softball fans are in for exciting and comfortable relaxation at the public school groundsâ€"thanks to the grandstand erected last year by the Lions. 60 and Smithville went on into OASA competition. Question of the week. When is the CAHA going to smarten up and get their hockey playoffs over before the kids should be going in training for the oncomâ€" ing season? This is one outfit that nearly overshadows the OHA for utter stupidity. The RESIDENCE 238â€"J NPRA PDDEDDLLLAL 84 6 2 2. OPTIMIST SOFTBALL TEAMS ARE FORMED Meeting at the Village Inn on Thursday night, members of the Optimist Club heard reports from various committee chairmen, reâ€" garding various enterprizes now underway. Chairman Art Arkell of the Boys‘ Committee, reported that four softball teams had been form. The track and field are both in good shape and every facility in the way of showers and dressing rooms will be available for visiting athletes. All in all, Col, G. R. Chetâ€" wynd and his committees are sparing no effort to make the event one long to be remembered. Those wishing entry forms may secure them from Blake Marlow at the Iincoln Electric Supply store, Grimaby. Principals of both high and pubâ€" lie schools in the district are urged to have their student athletes enter the closed events for which there is no entry fee, and which are reâ€" stricted to the area of Beamsvilie, Smithville, Saltfieet, Winona and Grimsby. In the open events, in which the athletes from outside points will compete, there is an entry fee of 25 cents for each event entered. Grimsby and district merchants and other friends of the Legion are contributing well towards the prizes which once again will be above the average for such events, Included in the entries so far received are 22 from the East York Track Club, of Toronto, and others from the West End Y.M.C.A., Torâ€" onto; Lake Shore Y.M.C.A. Track Club, New ‘Toronto; Gladstone Athletic Club, Toronto: also from athietic clubs in Hamilton, Stam«# ford, Kitchener, Brockport, N.Y., and other places. | Entries are rolling in for the Track and Field Meeting and Road Races to be held on the Grimsby High School grounds on May 24th by West Lincoln Branch, Canadian Legion, under sanction of the Southâ€"western Ontario Branch, Amateur Athletic Union of Canâ€" ads. It now looks as though the event will be the biggest and best of its kind yet staged by the Leâ€" gion. LEGION SPORTS DAY DRAWS MANY ATHLETES One of the biggest features coming up this month is the Chamber of Commerce sponsorâ€" ed auto races at the Beamsvilie fairgrounds We have seen some of the advance dope on the drivâ€" ers and the cars, and its strikely for thrills . . . That‘s for sure. ‘The dirt oval at Beamsville is being prepared for this, the greatâ€" est attraction ever held by the Beamsville Chamber of Commerce, and it is likely to draw many thousands of people, many of whom may have never had the chance to take a lookâ€"see at auto racing. It‘s a terrific sport and on the comparativdly narrow track at Bemsville the thrills and spills should be a dime a dozen. The date â€"Saturday, May 28. Boiled Overâ€"There is still a posâ€" sibility that a Juvenile or a Junior Hardball team will operate here this summer. Lions seem to be inâ€" terested, and with the firemen‘s uniforms available, would seem to be only proper . . . the Lions are also giving plenty of thought toâ€" ward the hiring of a recreational director. Two qualified men are available for the job, should the Lions decide to go ahead with the plan, which they have nursed for several years. . . Pud Reld Jr. is pushing softball down in Beamsâ€" ville.
