H. Lancaster, K.C., has tendered his resignation as viceâ€" chairman of the Lincoln County Citizens‘ Committee. Mr. Lancaster has been closely identified with veteran rehabilitation since the outbreak of war, serving for some years as chairman of the Citizens‘ Mr. Lancaster tendered his resigâ€" nation as viceâ€"chairman to C. F. Woodward who succeeded Mr. Lancaster as chairman in the reâ€" organization of the Citizens‘ Comâ€" mittee. Mr. Lancaster‘s letter of resignaâ€" tion and Mr. Woodward‘s letter of acceptance follow: Letter of Resignation MAJOR LANCASTER RESIGNS ‘ COUNTY CITIZENS COMM Dear Mr. Woodward: ‘The decision of the City Council on the qugestion of financial supâ€" port to be given to the Lincoln County Citizens‘ Committee hereâ€" after as communicated to you by letter from City Clerk H. H. Smith under date of July 11, 1946, toâ€" gether with the resolution passed by the City Council on the subject and attached thereto, makes the fact abundantly clear. 1. That the .operating Executive Committee of the Lincoln County Citizens Committee no longer has the confidence of a majority of the present City Council. 2. That it is not the view of the majority of the present City Counâ€" cil that the work of the present Committee should be financed sufâ€" ficiently beyond the end of 1946 to enable the work of the Committee to be carried on as heretofore and the present staff to be maintained. The views of the three members of the Executive Committee on the question of disposing of the servicâ€" es of the staff have been made quite clear to the City Council by previous individual letters. 3. That the view of the majority of the present City Council is that the Citizens‘ Committee as such should no longer function as a Mmmmmm jointly by the City and the County. 4. That although the operating Executive Committee now consists of three members only with the adâ€" dition of one member each nominâ€" ated by the County and City Counâ€" cils, that a majority of the City Council are of the opinipn that a smaller Committee should be set up to act on behalf and for the benefit of City veterans only. * The matter of our ‘budget ~reâ€" quirements has been fully placed ReC nds o C ul before the Finance Committee of the City Council by you on more than one occasion, and therefore their decision now made must be treated as having been made with ful knowledge of all the facts. The City Council are quite withâ€" in their rights in arriving at any decision they deem proper having regard to all requirements of the veterans of the War just ended and their reâ€"establishment in civil life. ancing And Future Plansâ€" Committee Has Done Fine Job In Rehabilitating Vetâ€" â€" Catharines City Council In Disagreement Over Finâ€" It is of no importance at all | keerierrritocitiil,. I concur in the views expressed in your letter as to the interpretaâ€" tion which may be placed upon the decision of the city council comâ€" municated to me by letter from City Clerk H. H. Smith, under date July 11th, 1946. Our work as a committee to assist with the rehabâ€" ilitation of our returned serviceâ€" men and women was undertaken at the joint request of the City of St. Catharines and the County of Linâ€" coln. The council of the County of Lincoln has made abundantly clear its desire to continue the support of this work. On the other hand, it seems equally clear that the majâ€" ority of the members of the city council regard the work of the committee as of insufficient imâ€" portance to justify its continuance in the present form beyond the end of January. To those of us who have been inâ€" timately associated with the work of rehabilitation, it is perfectly apâ€" parent that the need for that work will continue for some time to come,. This makes it of paramount importance, as you state in your letter, that there continue to be in veterans‘ problems that have con fronted the committee in the past. + Yours faithfully, E. H.
