Haist, Wilfred Lafayette (Died)

After only a brief illness, the death occurred on Saturday, January 29th, of one of this district's best known citizens in the person of Wilfred Lafayette Haist, in his 69th year, a resident of Grimsby for 45 years.
Deceased gentleman was born in Campden, the son of William and Mrs. Haist, and learned the painting and paperhanging trade with the late Jacob Albright. After serving his apprenticeship, he worked for a few years with A.F. Michener and took over that business in 1899 and has conducted it successfully ever since.
A large percentage of the finest homes and public building in the district since the turn of the century have been painted and decorated under his supervision.
He was very musically inclined and for a great number of years was a valued member of the old village band and the 44th Regimental band. He was also for many years a member of the Baptist church choir, of which church he was an adherent.
Prominent in fraternal circles he was a member of Grimsby Lodge No.7, A.F. & A.M., Grimsby Chapter 69; Hindoo Koosh Grotto, Hamilton; Grimsby Lodge 369 I.O.O.F.
Surviving are his widow and two sons, Reginald of Niagara Falls, Ont.,and Bert, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from his late residence to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, Rev. H. Merritt conducting the service at the home and the graveside. The pallbearers were J.H. Gibson, J.H. Culp, James Gowland, Gordon Shafer, Charles T. Farrell and Charles Walker.
