Burns suffered Thursday night in an explosion of gas in the cellar of her daughter, Mrs. E. Marshall, Hannon, proved fatal. Mrs. Thursa W. Whitwell, Binbrook, died at St. Joseph's hospital early Saturday morning.
She was visiting her daughter on Thursday, and had gone to the cellar to get some apples. She lit a match, and the explosion followed. It is thought the gas seeped into the cellar. Mr. Marshall and his wife found her lying unconscious and enveloped in flames. They carried her to safely, and beat out the blaze.
Mrs.Whitwell was in her 49th year, and the wife of Emmerson Whitwell. She was born in Glanford, but resided in Binbrook most of her life, and was an esteemed member of the Ladies' Aid. She was the daughter of the late Richard and the late Mrs. White, Glanford. She leaves her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Marshall, Hannon, and Miss Eileen at home; two brothers, Thomas White of Beamsville and W. Leonard of Hammon. Her sisters are Mrs. Hector Gillan, Binbrook, and Mrs. Wesley Taylor, Jerseyville. The funeral took place on Tuesday from her residence to Binbrook United Church for service, burial being made in the adjoining cemetery.
