Dr. George McKenzie Bowman, formerly of Jordan, died in St. Boniface, Man., on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Deceased was engaged in a curling game at the Heather curling rink, St. Boniface, when he was suddenly stricken and expired before medical aid could reach him. Attending physicians believe him to have been a victim of heart disease. When he left home he appeared in the best of health.
Dr. Bowman was born in Ash, a village a few miles from Hamilton, on April 1, 1867. He received his early education at Waterdown, and later attended the University of Toronto, where he graduated at the age of 21 years. His first practice was in Jordan, where he resided for a number of years. He went west in 1901, and settled in Weyburn, Sask., where he practised until September last when he took up residence in Winnipeg.
In religion Dr. Bowman was a devout Methodist, always taking an active interest in church work, especially among the young people. He was prominent in Masonic circles, being a member of the Scottish Rite. In politics he was a staunch Conservative and was president of the Saskatchewan Conservative Association. He unsuccessfully contested a seat in the Saskatchewan house and was nominated by the Conservative party to stand for a seat in the federal house, but declined.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Melvin, who is at present a student in the University of Minnesota; two brothers, Walter, of Saskatchewan, and John W., of Hamilton; and one sister, Mrs. S.W. Harrison of Hamilton.
