Welland, Nov. 21 - The death occurred here of George Bates, a well known railroader. Mr. Bates was the first man engaged by the T.H.&B. Railway when that company was organized in 1895. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Hannah Hagen of Walsingham and one son, Walter Bates, the famous tenor, of Detroit. Interment was at Hamilton today.
