St. Catharines, Nov. 15 - After a long illness, George D. Baxter, for 19 years Grand Trunk Railway station agent, died this afternoon at his residence here. He was born in Chatham in 1862 and has followed a railway career all his life, serving as station agent at Chatham, Glencoe, Longbridge, Thorold and St. Catharines.

He took a prominent part in public affairs here and was highly esteemed by business men with whom he was associated and by a host of friends. When Sir Henry Thornton was here this summer, he visited Mr. Baxter at his bedside. His widow, two sons, Thomas and Roger, New York, and a daughter, Elizabeth, at home, survive, besides one brother, Richard, at Windsor. He was an Anglican and an Independent Oddfellow.
