Ernest Wilkinson Lewis died at his home in Burlington on Thursday, Jan. 4, 1923, in his 68th year. Mr. Lewis was born in Grimsby Township, August 18, 1855, the eldest son of Isaac L. Lewis and Lydia Willcox, and received his early education here. As a young man he went to Waterford and learned the printing business on the Star, and worked later on other Western Ontario papers as a craftsman and in an editorial capacity. About 30 years ago he was managing editor of the News of Tillsonburg. On leaving the newspaper business he went with the Canadian Express and was agent at Burlington for many years. He was also interested in the Glover Basket Factory at that place and was secretary-treasurer of the concern for many years. He was for a time manager of the Capt. Henderson farm and later bought it, this being his place of residence at his death. A couple years ago he slipped on the dark back stairs and fell. Being a big man, the fall affected his health, from which he never completely recovered. About 35 years ago he married Elizabeth McCoy of Tillsonburg, who survives, as also a son, Talbert, at home. Miss Kate Lewis, of Adelaide Street, Grimsby, is a sister. The funeral took place on Saturday, Jan.6, to Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington.
