A promising career was cut short on Sunday night, Nov. 26, 1922, when Norman Gibbs, second son of J.R. and Mrs. F.E. Gibbs, "Fairhaven", North Grimsby, died in Parry Sound as the result of an operation performed in the hospital there. Mr. Gibbs had been with A.R. Globe on some mining engineering work some miles from Parry Sound and was taken suddenly ill, and was rushed to the hospital on Saturday evening. The doctors deemed an operation necessary and telegrams were at once sent to the parents here. The telegrams did not arrive and the telephone was used, but it was not until Sunday afternoon that Mr. Gibbs was reached. His reply was to operate at once, but the patient was too weak to survive the shock dying at 11 p.m. Sunday night. Mr. Gibbs went to Parry Sound and returned to Grimsby with the remains on Tuesday morning. Norman Gibbs was 18 years of age, was born at Manchester, England, and educated at Oxford House school, St. Annes-by-the-Sea, and at King William college, Isle of Man, and was still further adding to his knowledge as a mining engineer when death took place. Besides his parents, there are one brother and two sisters surviving: Hubert Gibbs and Misses Dora and Freda. The funeral takes place this afternoon (Nov. 29) from the residence of the parents, interment in St. Andrew's church cemetery, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard conducting the services. There will be a service at the house at 2 o'clock. The pall bearers are A.T. Davies, George Geddes, George Nelles, Malcolm Nelles, Maxwell Scott and Norman Wade.
