Mrs. Anne Catherine Hughes died at her home on Ontario Street on Wednesday, May 24, 1922 in her 82nd year. Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of William Milgate of Kent, England, and was born in 1840. She came to Canada as a young woman, settling in Grimsby where some three score years ago she married George Hughes who predeceased her in 1914. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. M.B. Tufford of Dunnville, Mrs. John Durham of Grimsby, one son, Robert, of Grimsby, and a brother, Robert Milgate of Toronto. The funeral took place on Friday, May 26 to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard conducting the services. The pallbearers were C.T. Farrell, C.F. Mabey, G.E. Miller, W.F. Randall, John E. Scott and Norman Walker. Among the relatives and friends from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Tufford and Mrs. James Logie, of Dunnville, Mrs. W.M. Irwin of Buffalo, Robert Milgate of Toronto, Mrs. Jennie Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Reid of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Mrs. William Ennis of Hamilton, Mrs. Arthur Hare of Ransomville, N.Y.
