The late W.H. Mannell (Drayton Advocate) - It was with very deep regret that the many friends of William Henry Mannell learned of his demise which took place on Saturday, April 29, 1922 at his home in Hollen. He had been in failing health from inward trouble for several months and he had only been home from visiting his son at Belmont a few days when the end came. The late Mr. Mannell was born at Brantford, Ont. in the year 1844 and came with his parents to Hollen when quite young. For a number of years his father conducted a tannery business at Hollen and the deceased worked with him until he grew to manhood, when he took the business over and continued it with no small degree of success for several years. In February 1871 he was united in marriage to Eliza Ann Armstrong, who survives to mourn his loss. Since his marriage he has lived almost continuously around Hollen, where he was highly respected by everyone in the community. The family consisted of eight, three daughters and five sons, five of whom still survive, namely: Mrs. R.M. Armstrong, Hollen; Harry of Woodstock; Edward of Grimsby; Howard of St. Catharines and Charles of Belmont. There are five sisters, Mrs. Haddock, Detroit; Mrs. J. King and Miss Mannell, Toronto; Mrs. Wallace Cannington and Mrs. S. Coulter, Moorefield. The deceased was an adherent of the Methodist church, and in politics a staunch conservative. The funeral took place on Tuesday, May 2nd to Hollen Cemetery. His pastor, Rev. H. Watts, conducted a very impressive memorial service at the house.
