Cross, James (Died)
- Full Text
A comparatively newcomer to Grimsby, but one who had made many friends, passed to the great beyond on Monday, Jan. 30, 1922, when the Rev. James Cross died at his home, Ridge Road, Grimsby, in his 64th year. The late Mr. Cross was born in England in 1857 and came to Canada with his parents the same year. After completing his early education he attended McMaster University and was ordained for the ministry at Breadalbane, Glengarry County in 1891. During the past 30 years he has been stationed Breadalbane, Lanark, Osnabruck, Kenmore, Iona Station, Campbellford and Erin. The latter was his last charge as failing health compelled him to resign and he came to Grimsby and purchased a small fruit farm in the spring of 1920. In 1921 he suffered a stroke which had materially affected his health, and a second attack a few days ago proved too much for his already failing health. The late Mr. Cross was married in 1895 to Catherine Campbell who survives to mourn his demise, also surviving are an only son, Ewart at home, and three brothers and two sisters, John of Elfross, Sask., Dr. George Cross of Rochester, N.Y., William Cross of Toronto, Mrs. W.K. Miller of Sault Ste. Marie, and Mrs. J.D. McIntosh of Meaford. The funeral takes place this afternoon from his late home at 2:30 to Queen's Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. T. Ratcliffe will conduct the services assisted by the Rev. Dr. Cline.
