The death occurred at her home in Toronto, on Saturday, January 21, 1922, of Mrs. Hannah Evans, relict of the late Jasper Smith of North Grimsby. Mrs. Smith was born in England in 1839 and came to Halifax, N.S. as a child. About 1860 she came to Grimsby, was married here, and lived for some five years, then moving to Simcoe and later to Woodstock. About 1888 they returned to the old Ezekiel Smith homestead and remained for over 20 years, living since with her son in Montreal and Toronto. As a kindly neighbor and a lover of flowers Mrs. Smith will be remembered by many old time friends, her greatest pride being in the wonderful flower garden on the front of the old homestead. Surviving to mourn her demise are two sons and a daughter, E.J.P. Smith of Martin & Smith, shoe manufacturers of Toronto; Ansley B. Smith of Chicago; Miss Maud Smith of London; and an only brother, David Evans of Streetsville, Ont. The funeral took place from the residence of her niece, Mrs. W. Farwell, Robinson Street, Grimsby, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, to Queen's Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Irwin conducted the services. The pallbearers were David Allan, C.T. Farrell, L.L. Hagar, A.F. Hawke, A.R. Hunter and W.F. Randall.
