Annie Elizabeth Spiers, wife of Albert E. Cole, the florist, died at her home in North Grimsby, on Friday, January 20, 1922, in her 57th year. The late Mrs. Cole was born at Mayfield, in the county of Peel, the daughter of Adam Spiers and granddaughter of Trumpeter Blakeley, a veteran of the Spanish war and who had fought under General Brock at the battle of Queenston Heights. She came to Grimsby about a quarter of a century ago and had resided here since. To mourn her loss are her husband; three sons, Norman, Gordon and John; and one daughter, Mildred; a brother, Peter Spiers, of Brampton; and three sisters, Mrs. J.H. Bennett of Toronto; Mrs. Christie Irwin of Heathcott, Ont.; and Mrs. John Cole of Vancouver B.C. The funeral took place on Monday, Jan. 23 to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. L.H. Currie conducting the service. The pallbearers were W.W. Ferris, George Leslie, Dr. C.H. McLean, L.M. Nelles, A.H.Russ, L.A. Wade. A number of relatives and friends from a distance were present to pay their respects, including Peter Spiers of Brampton, J. H. Bennett of Toronto, Mrs. M. Cole, Mrs. J.H. Lefler of Toronto, Thomas Cole, Joseph Weller of Woodbridge, Isaac and Mrs. Jacques, George Sharples, Mr. Soner and John Morgan of Hamilton.
